Mat's got his hands on EVERY generation of the all-American – the !

From the 1992 1st generation through to the 2013 5th generation, Mat's going to put each of these RWD through their speeds. He'll begin by asking each owner why they chose their , after which he'll release them from 0-60mph and take them for a drive!

They're all powered by naturally aspirated V10s, and as expected the performance and power increase slightly with each generation. So here's how they compare:

Gen 1: 8-litre NA V10: 406hp & 626Nm
Gen 2: 8-litre NA V10: 460hp & 660Nm
Gen 3: 8.3-litre NA V10: 505hp & 710Nm
Gen 4: 8.4-litre NA V10: 610hp & 760Nm
Gen 5: 8.4-litre NA V10: 650hp & 810Nm

So which will come out on top. Will he select the timeless gen 1? The all-new gen 5? There's just one method to learn … Stick to Mat for this brand new supercar comparison!

Viper by name, Viper by nature. These cars were legendary for biting owners when pushed really hard.

The Viper never suffered fools well. But in the hands of a skilled, experienced driver, they were amazing.

The 2003 Viper does 60mph in first before the limiter but you were changing gear at 58mph and that’s why the time was so far off the claimed 0-60.

You’d expect the Carwow team would prepare on the cars, and at least someone would let this know and tell to Mat. As much as I love this channel, cant help but say these minor mistakes makes this channel less of a professional “brand” to my eyes

They must have worked hard to get those shut-lines so big on the gen 1. Well done to the shut-line massiveness department at Chrysler.

It really hurts how mat shifts at 58mph. Just rev it out! Than it’ll actually be closer to its claimed 0-60!

The 3rd gen viper can go to 60 in 1st gear, in one of them you went 59 in 1st gear then shifted, I think this is where the lost second is

He did redline it in the 4th Gen and even the Racecar Driver Owner did it and the Time is still not any better, so i doubt that it would lose a whole Second

  9. SJ UK basketball Avatar
    SJ UK basketball

You’d hit a faster time 0-60 if you went to redline, gear ratio would definitely allow it!

    1. Chartreux Avatar
      Chartreux

Did you even watch the whole Video? That’s exactly what he does later and even the Race Car Driver Owner did it, and still the Time isn’t good

    2. SJ UK basketball Avatar

@Chartreux yes I did, he didn’t do it in the gen 1,2 or 3 though did he. That’s my point

    3. Chartreux Avatar

      @SJ UK basketball
Of course he should have but let’s be honest, would if made a huge Difference like so many Comments here claim?People seem outraged and even claim he wants American Cars to look bad.
I just doubt compared to the Gen 4 and 5 going to 60 in 1st Gear it would have made a noticable Difference.
Even the 4th and 5th Gen surprisingly didn’t shave off much doing so. So i wonder why the Gen 1, 2 and 3 would have made a Big Difference

    4. SJ UK basketball Avatar
      SJ UK basketball

@Chartreux we ain’t talking a big difference brother, maybe 0.1-0.2 but I think it’s more to do with the fact the gearbox is manufactured for that and he wasn’t doing it

    5. Chartreux Avatar
      Chartreux

      @SJ UK basketball
I definitely agree with that. I was just surprised how angry some People in the Comments (see Top Comment with the most Upvotes) and all the Responses to it claiming not only it would have made a big Difference but also that Matt is trying to make American Cars look bad/doing this on Purpose which is ridiculous. Happens in every Comment Section of Matt reviewing American Cars

Most of the vipers can go to 60 in 1st gear, the times are bad because you switched to 2nd at like 58mph on certain vipers

Mat, the 3rd gen can do 0-60 in first gear, the one second loss is due to the gear change at 58/59 mph.

It looked like they ALL mighta done 60 in first? To be honest they are all VERY similar, all have terrible power considering the huge capacity. Plus they all seem very truck like.

When you look up the racing history of the Viper in racing you just simply go speechless. The amount of records and times it did during it’s time that still hold up today is mind blowing. It shouldn’t have keep up with the European powerhouses but not only it did but won several times. Nothing about this car makes any sense, but that’s exactly what makes it special. It feels like Dodge could have gone even further but ended it too soon

Matt the Vipers hit 60 in first gear, you just needed to rev it out a bit further and you’ll avoid that shift.

I had a Gen 2 Viper, definitely got all the looks but lives up to its reputation! Almost lost it once with my wife on a backroad and after that never felt comfortable pushing it. Do want to own a Gen 5 though in the collection one say soon. Overall, very interesting seeing the 0 to 60 times. One of my favorite Car Wow videos!

2nd gen for me all day, every day… thank you. Also for the 0-60mph you don’y need to shift into second. Just use ALL of the rev range. it can easily hit 62mph in 1st gear.

This was the best clip I’ve seen in years on this channel. Do it with other brands and models. The list is endless. If Matt had the idea of 1st gear with the 2nd and 3rd gen on launches which he thought of on 4th gen he might have been surprised at the outcome.
