I drive the new Tesla Model 3!

Set Up a with :

Mat's in the driving set of the brand new Tesla Design 3, and he will discover just how various it is from the previous generation.

However to begin with, let's have a look at what's altered. When it pertains to the design, there are slimmer headlights in advance along with a big main vent in the bumper. There are brand-new alloy wheel designs as well as some specifically designed tyres for the and truck, and around the back, there's a set of brand-new taillights and an upgraded bumper. So all-in-all it looks quite similar, however Tesla declares this is the most aerodynamic automobile you can purchase from its variety, which aids with its effectiveness!

As a result, the new Model 3 can travel even more than the old automobile. It Long Range edition comes with the very same 75kWh battery pack as in the past, while the Standard Range keeps the exact same 57kWh pack. However, the variety on the Long Variety automobile has now been increased from 374 miles to 423 miles! The and truck also comes equipped with two motors to produce 490hp and 490Nm.

On the within, there are a number of brand-new features. The seats now include ventilation, and there's an LED light bar that runs along the side doors and across the dash. The stalks have actually also been eliminated from the guiding wheel, with indication buttons now added to it.

All-in-all the rate stays quite similar, so you'll still be likely to pay around ₤ 42,000 for an entry-level Model 3. But is it worth it ?! You'll require to stick with Mat and see on your own!

It would be great to have a comparison of luxury cars noise levels, comfort levels, and interior quality.

For over 100 years we have ridden in ICE cars with loud noise… all of a sudden a quieter EV is “uncomfortable”?

    2. CA Driver Avatar
      CA Driver

@James Watadzamaybe the high frequency motor noise contributes to that?

    3. WhoAteMyEggo Avatar
      WhoAteMyEggo

@CA DriverMore like the LACK of engine/transmission noise that acts as background noise and drowns out any small squeaks/rattles

    4. Hyrppa95 Avatar
      Hyrppa95

@James Watadza Luxury ICE cars (Mercedes E-class and the like and above) are quieter than majority of EVs. Engine noise is not an issue.

@Hyrppa95Yes, they are indeed quieter but as already mentioned by someone else. This is often due to the fact that manufacturers learned how to use the noise from the transmission, as well as the engine, and tires to cancel out interior noise. Think if it like noise canceling earphones, where the noise coming in is reduced but often not gone entirely because it is canceled out with a similar but opposite sound wave. When you synchronize the cars harmonics you can basically accomplish the same thing with less sound deadening and other materials. In an EV you don’t have the luxury of having a traditional noise engine or transmission to cancel out other noises. This leads to people often noticing noises in EVs that they would have not noticed before in a gas car. My method for getting rid of this noise is to just turn up the radio!

I’m really happy you’re focusing more on how quiet it is in the cabin. This is one of the most important things for me when we talk about comfort.

I wish he would be a bit more scientific about doing the sound tests but this is at least a pretty good general idea of what to expect in terms of noise.

I would suggest using these apps for noise and vibration in other cars. Guess it could be interesting to compare which is more comfy S class or 7 Series for example.

The decibel is sound energy/pressure or dBA and although 1 to 2 dB is okay, my guess is that the focussed is on a reduction of the Highest Frequencies leaking into the cabin, so they’ve used materials that would block/reduce certain frequencies.

    1. 4theistInfidel Avatar
      4theistInfidel

From the video it looked more like 3 db, quite alot

    2. cuda426hemi Avatar
      cuda426hemi

Being logarithmic 3db is huge – and the frequencies reduced are mostly mids and lows as high frequencies are easy to cancel. Proof? Just block your ears and all you hear are lows. 👂🏻

    3. Richard Jones Avatar
      Richard Jones

2 to 3 dB doesn’t seem like much, but remember that the decibel scale is logarithmic. That means that 3 dB less would be half the sound energy.

Great video and test/ comparison. As a sound guy used to looking at SPL numbers, I see (on average) more like 4 dbA difference on your noise measurements. It also looks like the Vibrometer readings are a full unit (whatever they are) lower on average! My 2 cents.
