    Not sure why you’ve included models that are 12 months old.

      Exactly. Why is a 12 month old Kia EV included. To be a fair comparison it needs to have been on sale at least 5 years?

      @paulste9424with the Kia, it’s not that trivial, when you consider the well-known ICCU-problems earlier electric Kia’s had including the EV 3.
      Quite calming for early adopters like us to know that Kia seems to have fixed this problem. πŸ˜…

      cars are new phones with reliability measurements shrinking to laughable periods.Β

      “your car didn’t explode after you rolled from the dealership? it should be on a list!”

    i’m more interested in how do we pick a car that will last 15 years without major costs. are the ones with teething problems under warranties also the ones that major thing won’t last long term? the grandland didn’t have many teething problems but do we really think those engines are going to be the ones that will likely last decades and 200k miles? only time will tell i guess but i’m doubtful.

    1. @paulste9424 Avatar
      @paulste9424

      I don’t think you can expect any car to last 15 years and 200k without major costs.

      @paulste9424 shoot for the stars and get to the moon. you must understand all i want is my best chance. my words aren’t meant to be taken literally. when i say “how do we pick a car that will last 15 years” i don’t mean the “will” bit i just want to maximise my chances even if it’s not guaranteed. if i am for 15/200 but end up getting 12/150 i’d be happy.

      My Swift (2010+ model) SZ2 did 145,000 miles in 15 years before it finally had a “major” issue – the gear cable snapped & catalytic converter needed replacing, all not particularly economical at that point. Up until that point? Not a single mechanical fault or breakdown. Miss that car… :'(.

      It was the bargain basement version – no AC, not even electric rear windows – but I guess that meant there was nothing to go wrong with it. 9,000 mile service intervals also kept it in good shape.

      edit: also got 54mpg average over it’s life, petrol. Not even the latest hybrid Swift manages that…

    I bought a Suzuki Swift 2024, it’s a bit less peppered of the last model but feels kinda reliable.

      This survey is such a waste of time. The GR is ahead of the regular Yaris because of the sales volumes. Then a Vauxhall in the top 10. It will be in the scrapyard within 10 years.

    3. @thatpeskyswan Avatar
      @thatpeskyswan

      @ozzyhono2077 It’s a 1 year old model, the previous model 2018-2024 did terribly in reliability, give it time and any PSA product will likely be pretty terrible

      Why?I had a new Vauxhall Astra twin top, 7 years old and >80k miles. The only thing I replaced in all that time was a blown fog light bulb. ( Although it was a real pain in the neck to change because of the design) It was such a good car and never failed to start or broke down. Vauxhall is still more reliable than VW.

    Lies!
    We had a brand new Kia EV3 GT Line-s this April and 2 weeks later the gearbox would not select drive or reverse. We had to raise complaint with Santander, because the dealership was not wanting anything to do with it, in the managers own words “He sells cars not rents them” even with video footage. But Santander got an independent engineer and the fault happened with him driving, he even found more faults with the charger door, as I had problems with charging.
    So please remove the 100% score for the EV 3 as I still have the video footage and the conversation with Santander, and Kia dealership and the engineers report.
    I didn’t expect this trouble from Kia, I did get an apology from Santander for my stress but nothing from Kia, not even a response from the dealership, (not that we were expecting from that despicable lot)
    SO IF YOUR THINKING OF BUYING A EV3 STOP AND THINK DO YOU WANT THE STRESS LIKE WE HAD? A brand new car that you don’t want to drive, it had roughly 300miles on the odometer for the 10+ weeks we had it, 90% of this was done in first two weeks. We were scared to drive it any distance incase we were stuck at side of the road or worse it decided to come out of drive
    Go to their competition Skoda, Even Hyundai

    Revisit this survey in 6 yrs, 7 yrs, 8 yrs, 9 yrs, 10 yrs from now. Some of your “most reliable” models will have morphed into “most unreliable” and even been scrapped due to engine issues!

    Had a Honda for 8 years and 100,000 miles with only a drivers seat fault which was replaced at no cost by the dealer ( at the time the car was 6 years old ). This should be the measure of a reliability survey.

      This is a perfect example of an anecdote, a single data-point that is a single person’s experience. I’m not saying it’s not significant to you, but in a statistical based study it is not – except as one of over 32k experiences.

    2. @williamfence566 Avatar
      @williamfence566

      @CoxJulmy example was a nod to how a reliability survey should and could be measured. One year old or 10000 miles expectation should be off the scale.longer term and higher mileage is a truer measure even if the sample size may be a touch lower.

    Hmm, very concerned about how on earth Vauxhall has moved, it is inexplicable. Mini? Very surprising too. Japanese/Korean are the way forward, every time. It makes them luxury cars to me. The luxury of knowing that you have bought a car that has been properly engineered and built.
