Peugeot E-3008:

Who makes the best family car? It's a question we get asked all the time at Electrifying.com. Household vehicle buyers want area, comfort, practicality and long varieties. Family journeys are everything about receiving from A-B with the minimum of fuss. Nobody wishes to be stopping to charge en route, right?

Previously, Peugeot has never ever had an SUV for families. But the French firm is correcting this by introducing not one but two of them– the E-3008 and its somewhat bigger, seven-seater sis, the E-5008.

The smaller and more crucial of the 2 gets here first, and reveals Peugeot is taking the electrical automobile market more seriously than it ever has actually done. Unlike the earlier (and just recently upgraded) E-208 and E-2008, the E-3008 uses a brand brand-new platform under its svelte body that has been better developed for electrical power.

Already the outermost you might officially travel in a Peugeot was around 260 miles or around 200-220 in the real life, depending on the time of year, so the 2 batteries in the E-3008 actually do move the video game on rather. From launch, we get the standard-range version, which has a 73kWh useable battery. Two more variations follow in late 2024/early 2025

The first is a twin-motor one for much better acceleration and bad-weather traction. That has the exact same battery and remarkably there's no cut in the ranked range, according to Peugeot. In the majority of cars and trucks you lose a few miles for defining another motor, and no doubt in this one you will too if you in fact dig deep into the improved acceleration.

The bigger battery choice has a large capacity for a vehicle this size, at 98kWh useable, providing 435 miles WLTP. It's front-drive just, but we do not have a cost yet for the battery upgrade. Both batteries are lithium-ion and have 400-volt technology.

Renault is likewise restoring the idea of the family automobile with its reborn, all- Beautiful. The new Beautiful E-Tech is only offered with a front-wheel drive, electrical powertrain that provides an impressive WLTP series of in between 260- and 379 miles.

Given the long variety and generous equipment that it gets as standard, it is among the better value electric family cars and trucks, along with being smart within and useful to live wit – all reasons that it won the European Car of the Year in 2024. The Renault Beautiful E-Tech gets 2 batteries to pick from, offering 60- or 87kWh functional capacities (65- or 91kWh overall capabilities) with a maximum WLTP combined range of 260- to 379 miles respectively.

That's remarkable range, especially given that the huge battery starts at under ₤ 41,000 – so you ought to go further in between charges than you will in an equivalent Skoda Enyaq, ID.4, Peugeot e-3008 and even the much more expensive Tesla Model Y.

However which of our French pair makes the very best bundle? Join Ginny and Nicola as they compare the 2 and decide on a winner. Which would you select? Let us understand in the remarks listed below.

I think I prefer the scenic

We need to see this segment drop into the 35-39k range to avoid the very unfair luxury tax band.. Renault are onto a winner with design, range, battery etc.. but the price will keep families away.

Because of that if you like the Scenic, just get the Austral as even top spec with an actual colour it’s under that £40k threshold.

It’s not unfair, it’s collecting tax from the people who can afford it that buy over expensive cars.

Afternoon and I’d say the Renault Scenic looks better

I love the Scenic and had one for a day test drive. Great long range. However, the narrow boot was a deal breaker for me. Shame as didn’t like the tiny steering wheel in the Peugeot.

If they were available here in the states, I would definitely go for the scenic.

Bit iffy with the microphones at the beginning and parts looked very under-exposed with the e-3008 interior segments. Apart from that the Renault looks stunning for a large SUV/MPV and the cabin is great. Pug also nice looking but quite as nice but stylish interior. Just a shame that all cars are way too expensive now and these fall in to the higher luxury tax bands from next year, so both manufacturers are going to have a very steep uphill battle in selling these, unless the finance deals are incredible.

Front wheel drive is what puts me off them both. Right now you can lease an AWD Nissan Ariya or a RWD Mustang Mach-Efor less than both of these, which feel like better options to me. That said, I love the armrest and the roof in the Scenic.

I tested both and took the Scenic. For me the Peugeot has the better design on the outside, but the Scenic is much better designed on the inside and has much more space (front, back, boot), plus the better range. And at the end Renault offers the better price (the 3008 costs nearly 10 000 Francs more in Switzerland)

    I’m a Peugeot fan and I have the e-2008…
    However…
I would absolutely choose the Renault over the Peugeot 👌

Hardly anyone mentions safety… the Renault Scenic has a master cut-off and a plug in for a fire-hose to flood the INSIDE of the battery with cold water .. plus has a QR on front & rear screens for emergency services. Who else does that? Then there is the “bongs” …. when set-up with what you want … a single button switches off ALL the bings and bongs, all the EU legal stuff … oh the joy ! After leasing a Volvo XC40 Twin EV for 3 years and test driving everything else that is realistically available … the Scenic wins hands down … had mine for 2.5 weeks now AND, it is the only modern car I’ve driven in the last 10 years that I can drive around with the window down without air pressure hammering. I never thought I’d have a Volvo and certainly never thought I’d have a Renault. Ordered, built and delivered to me in UK inside 6 weeks !!

I’ve yet to use one, but I don’t see why you are so against digital rear view mirrors. The rear screen in the Scenic looks to be about the size of a large letterbox, with the view becoming even worse with passengers sitting there. Surely a camera which gives you a much fuller view to the rear is infinitely safer?

The 3008 for me is just priced way above itself. For over £45k I’m struggling with why someone wouldn’t just go for a Model Y, Ioniq 5 or EV6? I quite like the Scenic, would be on a shortlist if I was shopping now, however I’m so impressed with my 2024 Kona it would take something special to pull me away from Hyundai/Kia

We have an 87KWh Scenic on order via Motability (the base spec is just £495, which is very cheap for the car you’re getting), and I really look forward to seeing it on our driveway!

I’d go for the Scenic over the e3008 any day. The Scenic looks more classy, and appears more functional.

I’ve test drove both vehicles and confirm the renault scenic is a far better car. I currently drive a peugeot 2008 and the interior is the same size as the new 3008. My children had little to no room at the back whereas the scenic was very spacious and has so much leg room. Driving the peugeot ride was far to bouncy. Scene drove very smoothly. I’m ordering my renault scenic e-tech at the end of the month.

This is important, the new 3008 is so cramped inside it’s basically another 2008.

      @bmctoonz

@oliverstemp9132  yeah! I was surprised that the cabin size was practically identical in size. I would go as far to say there is slightly more room in the back of the 2008. Such a wasted opportunity from peugeot.

I’ve got a theory about normal braking against regen braking with evs , you get the sponge braking with normal braking because it’s hardly used and the brake pads aren’t run in enough 😊👍 saw a man doing a vlog on the new mini , it was had only done 600 miles and no way where the brake pads run in 👍👍

The Scenic is better built and more spacious. I think it’s the Scenic or the Explorer.

I really don’t know why all manufacturers don’t make the headrests a place where you could put your phone to watch it hands free
