Hilux isn’t even remotely related to prado? Are you stoned?

Everything about seems ‘middle of the road’ which, for the price they’re asking, just isn’t good enough. It’s not interesting or retro enough to want one on styling alone. No idea why’d they’d drop the circular head lights for anything other than the sold out first edition.

Absolutely spot on. If you want a capable SUV with iconic looks then this isn’t it. If you want one with superlative interior quality, this falls short. If you want one that is brilliant off-road there are multiple other options which are also better looking and better built. This would have to be ten to twenty grand cheaper to make it a viable proposition.

Fascinating comparing to the yank reviews that basically get the Prado version but more or less the same badging.

Factor in the luxury car tax, VED, insurance etc and this is a really expensive car to run.

@@superchargedpetrolhead New model with new techs = always “child deseases”. Don`t by the brand new model of the first production year, whether Toyota or other brands! I`m always surprised that so many seem to believe that you HAVE to run fast and get the the new model from the very first model year. Unwise! The usual Toyota reliability sure will come, in the second or third year of the model!

    Thanks Doug; a fine review.
£74,000 is a tad pricey; I’d spend one tenth of that and get an ok condition Range Rover L322 diesel . Better interior and as talented off road. Supremely more so, on it .

I feel like a more comparable vehicle to this is the Grenadier, which was only mentioned briefly – not the Defender. Yes the prices may be similar but they are designed for different purposes and customers.

    Defender – G Class
    Land Cruiser – Grenadier

It’s a fantastic beast but the new version appears pretty dated in aesthetic which is a shame. However, as a work horse maybe that’s not important!

It’s not a SUV, it’s a 4×4, which with the right tyres, will get to the outback and be able to return and not breakdown, then it’s a no brainer for a new vehicle

Not according to the “carsales” review. A mud puddle caused it to fail and be sent back to the dealer on a tow truck. Reliable unless you go offroad 😉

What happened to the two door model? The Prado has offered a 2 door version for decades. The 40/20/40 second row has also disappeared.

For me, Toyota nailed the design and mechanical updates to the new Land Cruiser. It’s just too bad that the engine choice is just one diesel here in Europe.
But still, for me, this is king of proper 4X4 😉
