    At £41,990, this new Model Y Standard looks like a bargain on paper. But as we explain in this review, the cost-cutting is brutal: a cheaper-feeling interior, different suspension, no panoramic glass roof, slower charging and a noticeable drop in real-world range.

    Our verdict is that the savings aren’t worth the sacrifices and you should upgrade to the Long Range RWD if possible.

      @williampisano7573 This car is a rip off compared to the previous standard version as the cost difference is about £3,000 but there is at least £5,000 worth of features taken out.
      So that means you los more than you gain compared to the old version that was 98% of the long range car for £4,000 savings.
      That made it a no brainer.
      This new version though is saving £3,000 compared to the old version for a lot less.

      I suspect Muskrat did this as the sales are falling because of HIM and HIM ONLY and so rathe than admit it is his fault and leave the company he thinks he will rip off everyone to compensate.

      I disagree but each to their own but the major point is that this version is a rip off compared to the old version because sales are falling due to Muskrat so he wants to rip us off rather than admit he messed up and leave the company.

    When you consider that this is only £3k less than the ‘old’ standard range that has been dropped from the UK model Y range, it isn’t the bargain they’d like to make you think. I’d go for a recent used ‘premium’ example.

      Exactly! The old version was about 98% of the car the long range version was for about £4,000 saving(Juniper versions)and this saving of £,3000 is not what Ted;a saves, they save at least £5,000. So they make an extra £2,000 at least and give you 80% of the car the long range version is.
      In other words the old version was a bargain as we saved more than we lost and now we lose more than we save and if you want the features put back you need to pay £7,000 which is more than the £5,000 it saves Tesla.
      So they make extra money either way and all because Hair Muskrat is a literal narcissist who is Effing the company up and won’t do the right thing and leave the company.
      This is penny pinching on an epic scale !

    Absolutely agree with all your comments. Tesla could have followed the BMW model and used a subscription or a single payment later to activate the software. Matrix headlights were a software upgrade (requiring no physical change) only a year ago for older models; performance and battery capacity could also have been restricted on a low-cost model. Tesla infotainment currently offers a £10 monthly option to add features such as Netflix, colour maps, as well as a £3k payment for extra performance. The secondhand value of these models is likely to suffer due to their lower specifications; however, had there been a possibility to upgrade at any time, the long-term impact of the lower specifications would have been less severe, allowing original or second-hand buyers to upgrade if they could afford to do so at any time.

    I live in a hot country, where a panoramic sunroof and leather seats are not desirable, but a big disadvantage in the heat. So really, this might be the pick of the bunch over here!

      There are a bunch of 3s and Ys being used as taxis in dubai, and most of them have the panoramic roof covered for exactly the reason you talk about

      Here in the UK it’s a godsend as winter days with a bit of sunshine can warm the cabin significantly. Internal temp is always higher than external.

      You need cooled seats. It’s better than fabric, especially as you can pre cool the seat and the cabin before getting into the car.

      A simple way to memorize imperial to metric without constantly converting:
      Think in rounded anchors first, not exact numbers. Exact values are only there to sanity-check.

      30 miles ≈ 50 km (exact 48)
      60 miles ≈ 100 km (exact 96.5) -> why 0–60 mph ≈ 0–100 km/h
      100 miles ≈ 160 km (exact 160.9)
      120 miles ≈ 200 km (exact 193)

      Short distances:
      1 mile ≈ 1.6 km
      ¼ mile ≈ 400 m (exact 402)

      Aviation:
      33,000 ft ≈ 10 km (exact 10.06) -> FL330, typical jet cruise altitude

      Human scale:
      1 yard ≈ 1 meter (exact 0.914)
      6 feet ≈ 1.8 m

      Rule of thumb:
      miles → km: ×1.5 and add a little
      km → miles: ÷1.6

      The goal is instinct, not precision.
      Memorize a few anchors and you stop converting altogether.

      It should be just another system in your personal toolbox.

      Aviation and maritime use nautical miles, knots, feet.
      Astronomy uses AU, light-years, parsecs
      and etc.

      Takeaway

      Every domain picks units that encode meaning, not just magnitude.
      Once you work inside a domain long enough, the units stop being conversions and become intuition, exactly like miles vs kilometers in daily life.

    It’s not a £7k saving. It’s a £3k saving as they replaced the original standard range rwd model for this which was £44,990.

    Arguably, it’s an even worse deal when you consider what £3k extra got you:
    – powered rear folding seats
    – heated rear seats
    – rear display
    – sunroof
    – faster motor
    – powered steering column
    – ventilated front seats
    – proper arm rest and cup holder in the rear
    – more storage space
    – front and rear fogs
    – light bars front and back whether you like them or not
    – fake leather all round
