    A lesson to Ford on how they should have respected the Capri heritage! One of the better EV’s but not for me as with no off road parking it will cost me more to run than petrol. That’s a hard fact I’m afraid which will prevent sales.

    Park isn’t necessary, and you never need to touch the handbrake button. Use auto hold when on the road, and when you finish your journey, just press the on/off button, and the parking brake comes on automatically.

      Whatcar seem to always get technology wrong. Can’t use climate control, say operating system when they mean interface, etc. Not surprised they don’t understand how this feature works despite it being this way in every EV I’ve driven or owned.

    2. @drxym Avatar
      @drxym

      Park and handbrake are essentially the same thing. So this car does have it but doesn’t call it park. Personally I would prefer park to be next to the other drive modes. My MG has a big P button in the middle of a dial for forward/reverse and it’s unambiguous. Teslas have a button on the end of the drive stalk. That said, my MG has a Neutral mode and I really don’t have need for that – maybe it has to be in that for being towed or something.

      I agree that this in 150 techno spec £27k for a car that does about 150 miles in the cold is probably EV’s best offering. However I get the feeling it will be worth about £10-12k after 4 years. So financially a disaster but less so than any other EV from China. Private buyers beware?

    People spend a lot of time in their cars, to and from work, or out shopping, etc. so the quality of the audio system is really important. So why then in any of these car reviews does no one mention how good or bad the sound system is? Surely no one drives around in silence listening to the whine of the motor? A good standard fit sound system can make or break a purchase for me. I can’t be the only one??? 😂😂

    Very similar to our three and a half year old Zoe although it came with a five year 100k warranty. Delighted with out Zoe, less so with Renault. Our three year service plan turned out to be a two year one as you are only allowed to do 10k per year. At three years old the Zoe needed new discs and pads on rear brakes due to corrosion but they come complete with wheel bearings so expensive. Zoe going in for repair next week, refusing to AC charge going to be interesting to see if warranty covers that seems a common problem with a £1.5k bill. Renault only sell complete components for repair e.g. Zoe motor often fails on rotor bearing but you ca t buy bearing you have to buy a whole new motor.

    1. @mrpugster Avatar
      @mrpugster

      I’ve seen a few video’s on the cheap crappy bearings on the motor. Everyone thinking about buying a R5 EV should go and watch those. A little shocking this review didn’t mention the issue.

    2. @drunkenhobo8020 Avatar
      @drunkenhobo8020

      I’m surprised EVs don’t have a way to detect that the friction brakes haven’t been used, and deliberately use them to prevent corrosion. They do that with range-extenders to prevent the engines using too old fuel.

    3. @arselihp Avatar
      @arselihp

      Bearing built into rear brake rotor seems … crappy! Very unimpressive.

  16. @MrAlexrowlands Avatar
    @MrAlexrowlands

    When you do ‘real world’ range tests you should mention the distance tested and starting temp of the car. On a cold morning if I use my heating in my EV for a 10 mile journey the consumption may be 2.7m/kwh. If that journey was 40 miles the energy used to initially heat it is averaged over the journey (maintaining the temp doesn’t use as much) and it may rise to 3.3 or more. I find if I pre warm the car on mains power before I set off (on a timer function) the range is much better in the cold weather.

    Small back seats, three fullsize adult sardines, no heat pump, and over €30k in Ireland. Wins on looks and style. Still prefer my €23k Inster with 5 year warranty and 8 year battery warranty. Heated seats , wheel, movable back seats and heat pump included.

    3. @drunkenhobo8020 Avatar
      @drunkenhobo8020

      @@mickinoz2005 Means it’s not using resistive heating to heat the air in the cabin, but a heat pump (basically AC in reverse), which is far more efficient.
      Also according to Top Gear, all Renault 5s do have a heat pump. Unless they build a different version for Ireland and the UK, which would be very odd.

      Same for me with my Zoe. 53kw battery, 22kw charging. Bigger space back seats and trunk. Sure is nicer and better looking but that’s all

    5. @Whatshisname346 Avatar
      @Whatshisname346

      Heat pump is included. The inster is a good choice too but this stands out in terms of desirability. That means it’ll probably hold its value better than a lot of other EVs. Pity I can’t fit my dog in it. Not so hot on the R4s styling so I might be shopping around for a bit.

  19. @rusty911s2 Avatar
    @rusty911s2

    I honestly didn’t expect that price.

    We’ve got so used to upcoming cars being hyped at one (low) price, and then upon launch being something completely different.

    One thing reviews need to start doing as a matter of course is mention battery type, as the chemistries have very different characteristics that buyers should be aware of. Not good / bad so much as ‘this might suit you better than that.’

    As ever, another brilliant review: no nonsense, no hype, no music, just excellent nuts and bolts stuff with lovely filming.
