I can see what Renault are doing & I think it will work for them, I could never buy a French car, so it’s not for me, but they are doing something interesting.

Nice to have a full one piece illuminated “grill” in the front of the car. However, my questions are, how much will it cost if it is broken as it is glass? What happens when one of the led lights need to be replaced? I assume it needs a full panel replacement, cost £2,000???

Who knows…. It may well not be that expensive. Plus, it’s an option…. So don’t option it.

probably a lot, glass is kinda stupid for a crash area

@@mikadavies660 If there’s a plastic (read: like a regular bumper) version to cut cost, this could be an economy option.

The illuminated badge on my Wolseley never cracked or chipped and it was easy to replace the bulb.

I hate that I like it. I’ve had french cars for years and they’ve all been grand, both this and the 5 are really compelling.

This has grown on me and looks good in that blue. I have to change my company car in the summer so will definitely have a look at one of these.

Pricing in the current market sounds like it may not be good value compared to others that are currently discounted.

Looks good, nice nod to the original just like the new R5. Such a shame that Ford haven’t managed the same levels of honour to their own heritage with the Mustang Mach-e and especially the Capri.

That one piece grill will be expensive to replace pushing up insurance premiums.

I had a few French cars years ago but vowed I’d never get another one due to electrical issues (and rattles). The idea of an electric French car makes me feel a little queasy. What could possibly go wrong with a large piece of glass at the front of a car? I suspect it won’t be £50 to replace it when your friendly Renault dealer laughs and says you have to replace the whole thing after one bit of the LED fails and gives you a MOT fail red light on the dash.

I don’t understand why the two screens on the dash have to be attached to each other. It just makes more sense to have the screen ahead of the driver be smaller and show basic information while the other screen is bigger.

Agree – the effect seems to be only to impair forward visibility.

My Dad had a Renault 4 when I was born so that gives away my age. It was bright yellow and he once fit 10 kids in it to cart us to a cinema………those were the days when kids were expendable! I’m currently on my 8th Renault, a Megane mk4 hatch which I love but I still wouldn’t be tempted into any of the current Renault range which consist of SUV clones or EVs which I just don’t like. Yeah the R5 and the R4 have a nostalgic look but I still prefer my sporty hatch, manual gearbox and the fact I can go 900kms on a full tank, which I can “recharge” in under three minutes! As for that R4’s front end, what happens in a front end collision? Oh EXPENSIVE I’d say!!! Even a stone thrown up from a car in front will cause damage. Are car manufacturers doing this on purpose with an eye to future repair costs on EVs????? Give me a simple car anyday without “lightbars”, “massive ipads on the dash”, “ambient lighting” etc, all of which adds to the car’s cost but in reality serve no real function.

I’m old enough to have owned both the original R4 and R5. There’s no doubt that the new R5 is very reminiscent of its predecessor, I’m far less convinced about the 4. As much as love the new 5 (I’ve already ordered one) this just looks too much like yet another mini-SUV.

Agree. The world needs smaller cars like the 5, everything seems to be a SUV nowadays. You can barely open the door in the supermarket car parks.

No, it looks nothing like an original R4, and it certainly doesn’t reflect the relative price level!

The one-piece double cluster and grille, mean if you prank just one corner, the repair cost will be greater.

I love the 5 because it’s so faithful to the original . This doesn’t look anything like the old 4 in my opinion it’s just another mid size euro box in the same vein as stellantis . Would put it firmly in the mustang, capri camp in terms of name having no correlation to original model.

Really like the “5”, but would buy the “4”.
Have to say, I find that KIA and Renault are nailing it with the EV’s, leaving most others far behind in both design and tech.

I’m a much bigger fan of Renault 5. It’s a proper hatchback, not an SUV, but it’s still not a bad job by Renault to rebirth another iconic nameplate.
    Great video 🙂

Kudos to Renault for offering a full canvas roof. It’s what I remember most as a kid, standing on the rear seats with my head out of the roof as the car drove along, pretending I was a tank commander!

I’d expect it on a cheapie, like the original R4, but not on something expensive like this. They’re having a laugh. It’s a no from me.

Renault are doing a great job of designing their new range of hybrid and EV models. This Renault 4 is a great design linking back to the older model. I currently drive the new Rafale which I really enjoy.
