    I’m looking at buying the GT LINE S spec as I like the extras that offers. I did look at the Skoda elroq but if you spec that car to a very similar specification it costs more than the EV3. Plus I think the Kia is a bit more modern looking both inside and out. But don’t get me wrong the Skoda is a great car. It was the looks and the warranty that swayed it for me.

      I picked up a EV3 a few weeks ago but if my wife hadn’t wanted a larger car, I would have gone for an Elroq 85 Edition with standard paint plus heat pump. This keeps the RRP under 40k so you don’t get hit with “Wealth-tax”. Up until 19/02/25, you can get one in the Uk for £36,250 on Skoda 0% (includes £3,500 Skoda Uk deposit contribution)-you could probably knock this down cheaper than that I reckon via dealer/broker. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m more than happy with the EV3, it’s a fantastic car!😄

      A close match, if only the EV3 had non fabric interior trim as standard and the driver controls of the Elroq. Then again, if you want rear side airbags in the Elroq, they’re pare part of a £1950 optional extra.

      The other good thing with the Elroq, The FOC colour is nice, whereas the EV3’s colour is unpeeled carrot.

    There’s a trend these days with Kia and other car brands to have plastic backs on their front seats. I get that it’s easier to keep clean but they are prone to scuffing and if that happens it’s very difficult to hide and clean up. I noticed this in my Niro EV and it looks very similar here. I’d be interested to see if they discontinue the Niro EV. The EV3 has better battery and range numbers but it just a tiny bit smaller. The unfinished black trim on the Air trim looks a bit cheap and the info screen has a longer diagonal but looks thinner vertically.

      Personally, I prefer black plastics not to be piano black. The shiny trims are hard to present damage to; and on the outside, they’d get scuffed quickly and would require a trip to the auto spray shop to repair. I live in a locale with hedges, so minor but expensive scrapes are a foregone problem for shiny trims.

      @davidho5447  For cheap read practical/functional. My missus works with horses, and she’s just come back with our EV3 with what seems like half the straw and muck from her stable yard deposited on the bodywork and (rubber) matts. If I had a GT Line, I know that I would be fretting a lot more about this. I also have a seat cover for as well 🐴

    As I understand the VED charges, it would mean that if you chose a paint for the GT Line, other than the FOC unpeeled carrot. That would raise the EV3 into the luxury car bracket. So for the second five years, that would be very expensive paint. Better to go for the Air LR, option a colour and buy seat covers that will not be susceptible to sticky and or staining accidents or scuff marks and dirty paws.
    On the plus side, the FOC unpeeled carrot colour, will make it undesirable to thieves.

      @thewelshwarrior4634

      The paint only takes you £140 over the £40K limit, I’m 100% sure in April when the VED charges go live that Kia is magically find some savings and reduce the cost of the paint by £150 or they’re going to struggle to sell any cars that aren’t burnt orange. The bigger issue for Kia is how may GT Lines they sell, £2000-£3000 more for some nice upgrades is OK, +£400 a year on top suddenly makes the extra camera and heated seats a very expensive upgrade, especially if you planning to own the car for +5 years.

      I would hope Kia drop the list prices slightly so that all colours are £1 under the ridiculous £40K “luxury” car threshold.

    For me the EV3 and Scenic and the two most stylish great range EVs on the market.

    1. @toyotaprius79 Avatar
      @toyotaprius79

      The Scenic looks terminally German and forgettable tbh. Did you forget the designs of Renault before 2017?

  6. @rwd1973 Avatar
    @rwd1973

    I think that the two most interesting reasonably priced EV’s just now is the standard range, low trim EV3 and Renault 5 LR Techno/Iconic.
    What I understand from the reviews, Renault is more fun to drive and looks stunning but EV3 is more practical and has 7 years warranty. This is a tough one 😊

    1. @spsmith45 Avatar
      @spsmith45

      @@rwd1973 Also quite different cars. The Renault is lower, more confined and, as you suggest, less practical. The Renault is more of a city car too, with its shorter range.

    2. @rwd1973 Avatar
      @rwd1973

      @spsmith45  EV3 short range and Renault long range seems to have similar range.
      I would probably keep one of my old estates anyway so size is not a big deal

    Sick and tured of SUVs. They are inflationary!

    In regards in car screen size, shouldn;t the industry be using sq/cm (or inches) as the variety in aspect ratio means the traditional diagonal measurement doesn’t reliably give the customer an understanding of the actual screen size.( these long thin 12″ displays likely provide the same screen space as a squarer 9″ version….)

    The £40k luxury tax should at least be inflation adjusted, if it was ajusted from 2017 pounds when it was introduced it would be £52k now

    I look forward to this coming to the US. It’s all the EV I need. It looks like it will be a good replacement for the BMW i3. Living in southern Arizona, I don’t need a heat pump.

    Thats a beautiful car – sunset orange is stunning. I have ordered the Long-range air trim. No more range-anxiety

    1. @kelvin1316 Avatar
      @kelvin1316

      I’ve got a Niro EV which is about the same range as the smaller battery. No range-anxiety here, I know how far it can go and know when I need to charge, no different to fuel.

    The point of the panel could be for the passenger. This is designed for families – so there will usually be a partner/spouse in the passenger seat who can easily operate the middle panel

  17. @kelvin1316 Avatar
    @kelvin1316

    @4:43 You literally demonstrate there why no one needs a powered tailgate. You closed it faster than finding and pressing the button to close it.

  18. @kelvin1316 Avatar
    @kelvin1316

    In the Niro EV, which has a similar dash layout, there is a blank section between the two displays. To answer your question, what is the point, I would say the point is why not? The passenger can see it, and you show how it can be expanded for the driver so it isn’t a loss for it being there.

    I rather like the Air trim, don’t mind the black plastic on the wheel arches and that weird picnic table thing on the top models doesn’t bother me either. Kia are hitting it out of the park in terms of design language at the moment. Great review.

    Wait. In Germany, we have the option for a “winter package” for the “Air” trim, bringing the heat pump and a heated steering wheel.
    We just bought exactly that one.
