    If just for a medium range commute say no more than 50 miles each day buy an old Nissan leaf for £3k. I’ve had one for 10 years and maintenance including tyres over that time is less than £1000. I paid £10k for it so depreciation maybe £700 a year. MPG cost equivalent is about 300 miles to gallon on eco 7. The only annoying thing is the government have just decided to charge me £20 per year road tax 😡… and yes before anyone goes on about electric cars I am a true petrol head with a jag on the drive and several motorbikes in the garage.

      Bought a used 30kwh 16 plate Tekna with 100K, with 9 bars for £2500. Its stupidly fantastic for the price.

    Buy a second hand VW E-up or Seat Mi. The infotainment system is your phone.

      Amen, I went through this decision process and ended up with a used e-Up! As you say, you use your phone so your infotainment will always be up to date

      @zog97xy  not sure what you mean. BEV batteries last far longer in good condition than their first ownership. A used combustion car is a much bigger gamble

    My commute is 98 miles per day. Fuel cost is £12 per day (£3,000/yr). Electric cars, charged overnight and you are looking at £320/yr…. Buying a second hand BEV like VW E-UP means that the entire car is paid for in 2 years. Forget, servicing, oil, filters and petrol…. Running a BEV as a daily commute is incredibley cost effective.

      Still have to service EVs. Brakes, coolant, suspension checks, you could replace the cabin filter and screen wipers yourself. If you’ve got the time and knowledge, you can service the brakes. But you’ll have difficulty finding the correct coolant. It might not need changing for 50k mi but at 98mi a day, you’ll get there in 18mths. But yes, if you can charge at home and the vehicle can cover your total daily commute, (even in winter) without needing to use public charging. You’re onto a winner.

    08:11 – the main difference is the lack of AC in the entry level, a deal breaker if you live in Europe and drive it during summer days when it’s constantly more than 40° C and 50° at the asphalt level.

      @@zzhughesd in Romania during July and August we have 40+° Celsius constantly (measured in shadow); on the road the temperature is a lot greater. I can’t imagine driving a car without AC but I’m sure there are other EU countries where the weather is colder.

    I rather the T03 mostly because of where the infotainment is. In my opinion that’s where it should be in every car.

    Before you complain you can’t see it when you’re driving , you’re supposed to be focusing on the road ahead not the screen.

    1. @TDGalea Avatar
      @TDGalea

      If it were just infotainment, sure. Unless I missed physical A/C controls though, looking that far down and fiddling to adjust the AC is a firm no in my books.

  10. @lewismcnicholas2631 Avatar
    @lewismcnicholas2631

    I’d still go for the spring for the form factor. Higher ground clearance, really narrow for country lanes, better efficiency, hard plastics easy to wipe down , physical climate controls and a big boot for the class.

    I’ve just been through this process of buying a small EV and I bought a used VW e-Up! It looks better either the Spring or the T03 and rides like a bigger car. It also accelerates faster and charges faster. You can get a low mileage 2021 example for £10-11k and I think you’ll be happy

    You don’t have to put the Spring in “park” or “neutral” at a red light. Just put the parking brake on, and wait for the green light.

    Bought a Leapmotor last week, hugely impressed by it. It feels well screwed together, it’s nippy, and best of all it’s incredibly efficient. We’re averaging over 5mpkWh at about 8 degrees, so that’s north of 185 miles, wouldn’t surprise me if we see 200 in the summer…and all for less than £16k. Bargain

    Now take depreciation into account with something like a kia picanto, then all your savings have gone, multiple times over.
