    Dacia, the european car maker who fights chinese car makers! The fight is on! Lets go, Europe🇪🇺! Cheers from Romania 🇹🇩!

      Don’t want to burst your bubble, but as soon as the European legislation allows carmakers to produce cars like the Dacia Trickster, how long do you think it would take the Chinese to produce competitive cars, with better equipment for far less that the European car companies offering?

      So who would be the target purchasers of this vehicle?

    2. @BeLowBelowo Avatar

      If they reverse the wannabe SUV styling. Aerodynamics is more important to EV efficiency

      No it wont

      @BeLowBelowo – true, but… if the target is truly a city / urban audience who’s average speed is likely to be in the 20-30mph area, then aerodynamics isn’t as critical as a model aimed at those who might be expecting an average speed of 40-60mph. Increasing the speed 2x will (roughly) increase the energy consumed to maintain it by 8x. So, not denying aerodynamics is important, just positioning it relative to the intended environment in which the manufacturers envisage the vehicle being used. Possibly Dacia think funky looks will sell better than improved range given the the target audience.

      @madmcadder4536anyone in need of a second city only car, provided the price is great. But seeing as you can get a used dacia spring with 20-30k km for some 9k eur and probably double the range of this hipster, this should be no more than 10k new, if they could pull that off, it could sell pretty well

    I’d much rather have this than the horrid Spring.

      The Spring will be replaced next year with a new car, built from scratch, sister of the Twingo.

    I’ve seen a Dutch video on this and they said it fits in an EU category of vehicles with a maximum speed of 80km/h, for which you do need a car driver’s license. So in between things like the Ami and the Birò and regular cars.

      It has those vibes yes. Nothing high speed but neither “we only do 45km/h on a moped engine”

    Small EV`s are the only ones to make sense, we need Kei cars in the UK… keep it small, light and cheap then watch them fly out of the showroom!

    1. @gap9992 Avatar
      @gap9992

      I have a large EV and it makes a lot of sense to me, and millions of other people worldwide ! Peanuts to run and better to drive in every way compared to the many ICE cars I have owned.
      I agree that small EVs are brilliant, partly because they 100% fix the automatic gear problems that ruin many a small ICE car

    Among new cars, Dacia is the only brand I’m considering. Something new with a. warranty, low price tag, simple and reliable. I don’t even care about Euro NCAP’s ratings.

    Looks great but Japan already makes kei cars that look like this, such as the Suzuki Hustler. City cars that have been around since the 1940’s. Are we only just realising that we don’t need massive SUV’s to nip to the shops.

    1. @ymirfritz9989 Avatar
      @ymirfritz9989

      part of the problem is the road tax system, why would i buy a tiny kei car for £200 a year in tax when I can get a crossover for the same tax? at least pre-2017 it was very clear cut that i could either get a polo/golf for £20 a year or get a passat/tiguan for £200+

    2. @disarchitected Avatar

      Don’t Kei cars have insurance, tax and registration benefits in Japan? I don’t see why they would be popular without these incentives.

    Absolutely love this!. Most new cars do nothing at all for me because they are too big, too heavy, needlessly powerful and are loaded to the gunnels with unnecessary tech and equipment. The Hipster is a breath of fresh air here, though i’m not convinced it is that original. There was a list of cars from which inspiration was supposedly taken, but no mention of the Citroen Oli and a handful of chunky Japanese Kei cars which, to my eyes, seem to have provided much more inspiration to the Hipster than those mentioned🤔
    But bring it on, and the sooner the better😁

    1. @sturoe7361 Avatar
      @sturoe7361

      It’s enough in a city . Would agree if you live in a rural area,but then you wouldn’t be buying a city car.

    3. @Jason-Thorne Avatar

      It wouldn’t be anywhere near as small and light if it did double the range!
      70 miles is more than enough for a small city car though.

    Given it’s so small, this would be good for most local journeys with 2 kids. Airbags in rear with isofix points and given it’s height, expandable storage options for bike racks or extra gear/shopping on top would be awesome. It’d be great if we saw these mostly on the road and bigger cars for longer journeys out of town can be hired for the occasional trips.

    It really is as practical as it looks. Like, it can fit tall people within, and the u-clip accessories enable all shorts of configuration versatility. Cheap Kei cars have proven useful for many EU cities in the past, and compact but practical EVs like the Hipster, fit that niche perfectly. If there’s one thing I’d like to see in the final version, is the roof rail system from Duster/Bigster models, independent adjustability for the driver’s seat (so a short driver and a tall passenger can fit at the same time with cargo in the back), and some light towing capability.

    @disarchitected

    I’d only consider something like this if it came with financial advantages. No VED. Reduced residential parking permit charges. Reduced council parking charges. Reduced insurance. Reduced congestion charge. Otherwise what’s the point? I’d much have a larger vehicle with a greater range.
