View our brand-new BYD Atto 3 EVO review for THE VERDICT on this revamped electrical SUV from China. The initial Atto 3 introduced the world's greatest EV maker to the UK, however it left us dissatisfied with its slow charging and sloppy handling. Now, BYD is back with the significantly overhauled 2026 BYD Atto 3 EVO.

With a switch to rear-wheel drive, a big bump in charging speed (now 220kW!), integrated Google tech, and a brand-new 101-litre "frunk", does it finally have what it takes to beat heavyweights consisting of the Skoda Elroq and Renault Scenic?

In this video, we take a trip to Madrid to check the new and much-improved Atto 3 EVO. We break down the enormous technical changes– including the new 74.8 kWh "Blade" battery and the switch from front to rear-wheel drive.

We also check the broadened 490-litre main boot, explore the wacky gym-inspired interior (which drops the kettlebell equipment selector), and provide our verdict on whether the high ₤ 39,000 expected beginning price is worth it when rivals get approved for government EV grants.

The new Atto 3 EVO has a longer range and much faster charging – plus a massive 101-litre “frunk”! However, the expected starting price is £39k and it won’t qualify any government EV grants. 💸

Which electric family SUV would you buy?

    A) BYD Atto 3 EVO (For the tech, charging speeds & standard kit) 🔋
    B) Renault Scenic (For the massive range & space) 🇫🇷
    C) Skoda Elroq (For the value & driving experience) 🇨🇿

Geely EX5 maybe. Huge specs, much cheaper than this new one.

Does the nose lift/body tilt when accelerating or braking hard? Because Teslas are usually very stable and reasonably comfortable in all situations. But in several tests of VW/Skoda vehicles, there is a lot of body roll… What’s your opinion?

I test drove the original Atto 3 when it came out in the UK. It was well spec’d & the price was OK-ish (albeit much more expensive than the same RHD car in Au & NZ). However, it didn’t blow me away &, as you said, the handling & front drive traction issue were very apparent on wet / damp roads. I was not a fan of the guitar strings either which the kids will drive you to distraction with. If I heard you right the pano-roof is now only available on the top spec model which is a backward step in my mind (std before across the range). However, the LFP battery & std fit Heat Pump are good to have. This new one is better in many respects but at those prices I don’t think it would sway me away from a better riding Elroq + an extended warranty. Better still a used Enyaq for much less!!

We own (in Thailand) a BYD Atto 3 since 2 years and more than 65,000 km. It is a good car, not «exciting», but it does its job. The main disadvantages are the not so good driver assistance systems and headlights. Hoping, that BYD has improved these two systems.

I took an extended test drive when it first came to the UK. I also found it lacklustre.
The interior quality wasn’t great, the ADAS system was atrocious and it wasn’t economical either. The ride was quite brittle on the broken roads of the Midlands.
This facelift is the car they should have launched but at £6K over the multiple award winning Karoq it just isn’t going to sell. You’d have to be mad/get an excellent PCP deal to choose this over a lot of other cars in this class.

Really like the upgrades. Robust battery tech you can charge up to 100,%

You can charge all of them up to 100% 😂 but for daily commute, you don’t need to and you also have the battery from stress.

This is the car they should have launched at the time.

In Israel, Thailand, Singapore, Sweden and some other places – Atto 3 is BYD’s best seller.
It isn’t so in Indonesia. When the trio Seal, Atto 3, and Dolphin was released, the Seal blew away Atto 3 and the worst selling BYD Dolphin by far. And then the M6 (Song Max MPV) came out, it immediately outsell every EV in the market. Finally the Sealion 7 to break the record as best selling BYD, before Denza D9 luxury MPV took the crown. The Seagull (Atto 1 / Dolphin Surf / Dolphin Mini) is now the best selling BYD in Indonesia.
Back in China – Atto 3 or Yuan Plus is nowhere close to top 10. Best selling BYD has always been the trio Song Plus (Sealion 6 DM-i), Qin L, and Seagull.
Supposedly this volume selling D-segment crossover is BYD’s weakest point, including the its hatchback, Dolphin. Yet people in developed economies like Israel and Singapore gobble it up, It is the best selling car (both ICE and EV) in Israel for year 2023 and BYD’s best selling car as Singapore’s #1 car brand.

Much prefer the charging port at the front, especially for home charging. Also miss the more traditional gear shifter centre console location.
