NEW Audi A5 review – the A4 is DEAD, but is this better?

The famous Audi A4 is DEAD. In its place comes the new Audi A5 Saloon– a vehicle that needs to replace the A4, the A5 Coupe, and the A5 Sportback simultaneously. However does a new name and a sleek makeover make it much better than the BMW 3 Series?

In this video, we check the new Audi A5 to see if it can dethrone the BMW 3 Series as our favourite combustion-engined executive car. We examine the questionable interior changes (where have the physical air-con controls gone?), test the new hatchback boot that Audi calls a "saloon", and find out if cost-cutting has actually messed up the premium interior feel the A4 was popular for. We also inform you which engine makes one of the most sense.

    Audi interior design and quality have fallen off a cliff. Look and feel terrible these days compared to previous models

      I agree, that material on the seats and dashboard just looked nasty

      The interior reminds me of my old ’08 Civic Hybrid except that thing was 2x as practical and useful since it has no buttons, lol

      Looking thru rose coloured specs. Every new model is never as good as the old one according to the armchair experts. Look at that large screen where all the information and haptic button sit – it’s one integrated unit. Now look at the previous model. The screen looks like an afterthought, something purchased from the middle isle of Lidl. It still had haptic buttons but was much smaller, less clear. The dash/door trim in the new car is wrap round integrated. In the old car it was completely seperate, much cheaper looking. Many buttons now in same area and much easier to use than when they were scattered all over the shop. The suspension setup on the new model is light years more advanced of the older one, especially in sLine trim and above.

    The naming issue is yet another example of some modern audience manager going “didn’t read the source material” and pushing through insane changes.

    Test drove one, steering wheel shape is odd, mmi is horrible to use, feels cheap generally and ride quality crashy, the current Audi design language isn’t to my taste either. Skoda superb and vw Passat are better designed more comfortable, with more space for a chunk less money

    Audi already admitted that they’ve made a mistake with renaming it to A5, so A4 it’s probably coming back soon…IMHO, peak A4 was B8.5 and B9 generations.

    Is the new A5 a step forwards or backwards for Audi?

    a) Step forwards – I love the modern screens and new look! 🚀
    b) Step backward – Bring back the physical air-con controls and the A4 name! 🔙

      Why, oh why are your reviewers so reluctant to tell us if vehicles are rear or front wheel drive. I still don’t know this, so I’ll have to go somewhere else to locate this basic fact😮

      @markcooke1275Audi are front wheel drive. This is front wheel, unless you go Quattro of course. Either way, avoid it, it’s a horrible car, I sold mine after buying it within 3-4 weeks, massive backwards step!

      @pricey78Tks very much for the quick response. It must truly have been horrible to sell it after just a few weeks. Wow!

    Manual adjusted cloth seats and cheap pianoblack painted plastics everywhere, as an Audi Driver, what is happening? The downfall of Audi is sad to see, a Skoda looks and feel better on the inside

    Korean brands were imitating germans, now korean brands interior design and quality surpassed germans, and germans have done a free fall 😂

    1. @SiamHossain7 Avatar
      @SiamHossain7

      TBF a lot of those Korean firms brought in the designers that shaped some of the most iconic German cars, it only makes sense. Just a shame that their successors back in the German brands are not even close in terms of skill.

      @StellaTigerFamily

      @SiamHossain7agree. Look at the interior of a genesis its way classier than a competitive a5 or 3 series etc

      Honestly quite insulting in an 1800kg, £43k+ ‘luxury’ car. They don’t even offer the 265hp petrol you could get on the previous model

    Leather seats is a legal requirement in

    “Wobbly bit of plastic” is a good term for the button clusters. WTF even the $6000 Tata Tiago in India has better buttons. Presumably absolutely everything in this Audi is the cheapest they could make it.
