Clarkson is an old has been “get off my loan” type of guy who’s deathly afraid of change.
For EVs Misha Caroudin said it best: we like good car, fast cars, fun to drive. No need to care which fuel is in it, ev, gas, hydrogen who cares? 😅 just have fun driving the thing that’s all that matters

I was dribbling over 5N in the dealers. My very last ICE car was a Abarth 595 Compizone and I can say EV’s are definitely not boring even run of the mill ones

Someone around the corner has an ioniq 5N. I broke the 10th commandment on that one. Looks great.

Why are all BEVs advertised as having ‘automatic gears’? As far as I understand they only have one – a reduction gear that doesn’t change.

My view on Clarkson saying what he says about Ev’s is just getting attention hiding behind the real reasons. One they are getting fed with the workload having got his own series Clarkson farm his column and other tv work in short he doesn’t need the money. All three of them have there own separate shows. Richard or James don’t share his views as they both run Ev’s. So I go back to what I said at the start.

Another free tank of oil for the heating system in Clarkson’s mansion.
    Allegedly.

I find him to be an unpleasant, arrogant man. 25 years ago his type hated the idea of the first Hybrids. 25 years before that they hated EFI and Small Turbo engines because they were “too complicated”. They’re always running behind the times, pining for the past.

Clarkson is right! From where he’s standing…
I am sure the same words came out of horses riders when cars started to multiply 110 years ago. Driving a car is not even a tenth as involving as riding a horse, not as connected, noise, wind feel, synchronised with the beast. Car felt closer to bycicle and greasy and mind wrenching noisy. Steering was vague, acceleration not even close to a champion horse. And yet soon cars took over the world and horses went to sports of rich kids. Or very poor and ribbs popping workers horse.
EV’s are to cars closer yet not the same. No vibrations, no noise concerts of V8, even less feel of mechanical torture of parts.
But dinosaurs juice is going to end in 35 years time. And not because of cars but because of industrial usage. And not because of Europe, North America or China. But because Africa grows and will need a lot of dirt cheap old timer mechanical cars and even more industry and agriculture.
In 30 years timw the world will be very different place. For those who wants to see, just climb a bigger hill. Clarkson is very happy with the one he’s got right now.

Dualit toaster gets my vote. Bought one 15 years or more ago, still going strong. Never had a toaster before that lasted more than a year or two.

Clarkson drove and enjoyed the Ioniq 5 N. He wrote it up in his Sunday Times column. My wife swapped her BMW M2 Comp for a 5 N and is loving it.

Re Road tax or VED. Top tip. Renew in March regardless and you won’t pay til 2026. Also how is it they reversed zero fee for EVs but some ICE cars will apparently still pay £20. Hopefully that gets looked at.

The real issue is that eventually we have to find other means of propulsion than those which create noxious fumes, especially in towns and cities. Making them exciting to drive should be fairly easy as the engineering to do this has been developed over the past 100 years.

and in an in-line format, used when the diesel-electric train engine came out 100 years ago. No one would ague that the four electric motors in that setup lack any power.

The early farting and noisy ICE cars won. Now EV’s have won, even without the environmental imperatives. Jeremy can retire to his farm and play with his heat generators. People are shocked when they are told that of 40 litres of petrol only 10 litres drive their vehicle and the rest is just burnt.
