The volume dropping in reverse was meant to be a safety measure. Generally people keep turning the volume up as they go faster and noise increases, but often don’t turn it back down when they get to a slower area. The theory is the lower volume enables you to concentrate and possibly hear things outside the car.

Woth a noisy ICE car that might make sense. This is an EV discussion which are much quieter.

@@RichardHilditch systems that lower the volume when reverse is engaged have been around for many years, so the code for that has just been carried over. I do drive an EV and find that I still need to turn the volume up as the speed increases, some of that is that tyres get noisier as they wear, mine are roughly half worn, and other parts will be that the Soul isn’t on a bespoke EV platform, so the suspension might not be tuned in the same way, and then there’s the wind noise. The first time my dad was a passenger in the Soul he was surprised how noisy it was as he’d expected it to be quieter. At that point it was a few months old with probably less than 3000 miles on it. The Soul was quieter than his Skoda Kamiq, but not by as much as he’d expected. A few months ago I got to drive an EV6 and it seemed quieter than the Soul, but I didn’t check the tyres for wear and was limited to 40mph.

Definitely need a way to change the voice activation handle like you can with Alexa, personally I’d choose Forsooth, not exactly a greeting but I’d enjoy saying it and it would encourage me to use voice activation more

    Googled it
    Curry Sauce
It originated in the 1970s when many fish and chip shops in the North of England were owned by Asian families. Just over the Irish sea, the Irish take on curry sauce is a darker and richer sauce than its English counterpart and typically contains the flavour enhancer Monosodium Glutamate or MSG.30 Sept 2022

Good that so many car manufacturers are now producing quite a few interesting model ranges.
Renault, Kia, Hyundai, Citroen, VW, MG, BYD.
The weakest in terms of car design launches in the last 7 years is Tesla. 1 new car design and a clown truck.

I always get giddy when Ginny’s on the podcast 🙂 . One thing I’d like to know more about in car reviews is how easy it is to turn off certain ADAS systems and if they have to be turned off every time you turn on the car. I often find my EV reports the wrong speed limit or gets afraid of shadows and wants you to brake. There are many little things that would stop me buying a car like capacitive buttons, complicated ways to turn off ADAS systems, complicated window switches and a big one for me is having to put the car in park, I always use neutral (my current car puts itself into park so I don’t have to) and have modified all my previous ICE auto’s so I can do this. Carl,

And yet voice recognition has been perfect on cars like MG, Dacia for years and years and years. Let’s not pretend it’s a premium feature. The Ora VocR is 👌.

Taste? As a youngster, around late 60th, the most beautiful cars i ever saw, were the Jaguar E-type coupé and the Aston Martin DB6.
And the last few years I added the BMW Z4 Coupe to the list.

Just to play devils advocate on the left handed argument. I’m right handed, however… in the UK we sit in RH drive cars which means I have to use my LH to control and navigate the touch screen so the switches on the RH are a minimal problem compared to RH users having to use LH screen controls. 😉

Bjorn loves shouting 9999 very loud when he is doing 1000km driving tests. He makes a lot of jokes about the German language (I think he only knows a few words).

I’ve had a megane for nearly twelve months now and the stalks aren’t a problem at all, after you’ve set the headlights and wipers on automatic you only ever use the 1 stalk to change direction. And the car is astounding by the way 😊

Whilst I have spent recent years getting excited about new EVs coming to market. The only really giddy feelings are definitely for cars like the Dacia Spring that are well below £20,000. Real affordability is so needed.

This is kind of EV Ford should use its Capri name for sports 2+2 EV coupe 😊😊😊.

Regarding voice recognition, my Leaf has it well sorted. Short press the button to speak to the vehicle, long press for Google Assistant on Android Auto. Our other car, a Tesla, has near on useless voice recognition system. It’s a major gripe we have with the Tesla.

Loving the pod as always. I must dispute the left handed bias when it comes to cars…well in the UK anyway. As a right handed person when i am trying to use touch screens in car im hopeless as its obviously my left i need to use. My left handed wife agrees! Also agree with Mike im not really a fan of talking to cars. Final point. I have a megane etech and i got used to the 3 stalks very quickly. Maybe i prefer the middle dial like the mg4 has for drive etc but its not a deal breaker. Keep up the good work ❤
