Did you happen to tell Stella how cr@p you thought her SL7 was?

Do we need to peel the label off the Enyaq swear box and replace it with the Renault 5?

No one called Jonathan Livingstone should be permitted to buy the new BYD offering, for obvious reasons.

Insurance on the Soul was interesting. When i first got it (Jan 2022), the premium was in line with my previous Skoda Kamiq. However renewals saw ridiculous hikes. Initially from £275 to £400, but I negotiated that down to £305 (Jan 2023). Next year it was hiked again to £531 and another negotiation saw it drop to £377 (Jan 2024), at this point I found out they hadn’t reduced the car’s value in line with depreciation, so that came into the negotiation. I also couldn’t find the value they were using on any of the renewal documents! Then last January 2025 they tried to up it to £501. At that point I’d had enough of the annual negotiation and changed insurer at £379. It will be interesting to see what the renewal for the EV3 is like in December/January. Think I’ll avoid naming the insurer here, but Mike has my contact details.
EDIT: I did have one claim for a windscreen chip in April 2023, so that would have had some impact.

Woo Hoo, recommendation for the ID7 Tourer.
From experience it has a great range with a shed load of space for holiday packing and is ridiculously comfortable to drive and be driven in. Easy to operate with a decent charging power and efficient to boot.
Most of my miles are local / commuting and it is a joy even round town as does not feel or drive like the large car it is and if you top the battery to 100% before you leave and do the top up charging you soon will find your favourite spots on the way.

I really do love watching the kilowatt half hour (ish), normally I am in the middle of watching a film or something, but when I see it drop, I stop whatever I am doing to settle down end enjoy the podcast. Keep up the amazing work, love the reviews too!

Batch, when you say you were looking for more space in the back and boot of the Renault 5… Isn’t that the Renault 4 you are describing? I know it is not a pretty / eye catching… But I am still going to have a look when it hits the showrooms.

For Sandra’s 7 seater quandary, what about the Hyundai Ioniq 9 launching in May?

That said I think I would want the VW, but buy the Kia EV9

It’s odd hearing you say the Lucid Gravity is huge, compared to other American EV 7 seaters like the Rivian R1s and the Escalade IQ it’s a small 7 seater, however they have managed to create the same interior space as the Escalade just in a much less brass in your face giant package.

I get wat U guys say about exciting EVs, having ordered a R5 myself, however a lot of people don’t want exciting they want average everyday cars, especially if switching from ICE to EV they don’t want spaceship design with lots and lots of tech, they want ‘boring’ Subaru’s/Toyota’s, VW’s and everyday Ford’s, with the Explorer seemingly taking a lot of customers upgrading from the ICE Kuga, Iately there has been loads of Explorers and ID 7’s on the roads around where I drive and B4zX’s to be fair I think the market needs some normal everyday every person looking EVs to help build the EV market up, things that don’t offend people and just drive comfortably and have decent range and charge speeds.

I personally would like to see more EV saloon cars, a smaller Volvo ES90, maybe an ES60 OR ES40.

Also update the polestar 2 using proper EV architecture / platform, but keeping its design, not too bonkers, just keep the yellow seatbelts and get rid of the shiny plastics.

The electric Mercedes CLA, Mercedes C-Class, the BMW i3 and the Smart #6 are coming to markets in 2026. The CLA starts deliveries at the beginning of July 2025, not sure about the UK tho but it shouldn’t take too long.
All are mid-size saloons / sedans. The Mercedes CLA will also be available as a ShootingBrake / estate.

I wud have assumed the ID buzz would be more practical for kids and dogs and all the stuff packed when going away with them, with the lower boot lip and boot shelves etc, more space in the seats also, think I wud take the Buzz and just have a little longer breaks smiling at the car while charging if traveling longer distances, the Kia EV9 although very nice, is another large SUV, like to stand out from the crowd a little bit more 😜

Scared to mention Renault now in case I need to put money in the swear jar 😂 but I went from paying £210 a year for an 8 year old 1.0 fiesta to £320 a year for a brand new megane etech Iconic and that was with a normal well known insurance company with like for like cover. Not bad considering the vast difference in the value of the car being insured. My wife also has a Mini SE and also went from a 1.0 fiesta again £200 a year and is only £290 a year for the mini. Then there’s our neighbour who has an Enyak and his insurance was actually lower for the new Skoda than his old petrol suv. Obviously everyone’s experience will be very unique depending on driving history and geographic location but our experience with EV insurance costs have been surprisingly good.

Great show Ginny and Batch love the chemistry you have, flows effortlessly with egg-cellent energy 😏 – you’ve made Good Friday a Great Friday 👍
