Yeah, the KHH, the most interesting and fun EV news in Europe.
    Remember the XBUS ?
That was the modular EV “BUS” that you could go to the dealer and rent ecxtra batteries and a “camper” unit for vacations.
The XBUS was ready for upscaling at VDL Netcar Netherlands, but couldnt raise the 150 miljoen to do so. It went under

Tesla’s European sales are taking a serious hit. January 2025 registration numbers are way down, which is a red flag for the company’s performance in Europe. This is happening even though the overall European electric vehicle market is growing, so Tesla’s problems are not part of a wider issue. A few things might be contributing to this: the changeover to the new Model Y, more competition, and all the controversy around Elon Musk’s politics.

The numbers tell an interesting story. In Germany, which is Tesla’s biggest market in Europe, registrations plummeted by almost 60% in January. They only sold 1,277 cars compared to 3,150 last January. This is especially worrying because the overall German car market only dropped 2.8%, and electric vehicle sales actually went up by 53.5%. It’s a similar picture in other European countries, too. France saw a 63.4% drop, the UK was 18.2% down, and the Netherlands also had a 42.5% decline. Across Europe, Tesla’s January sales were down by 50.4% compared to last year.

The model Y is such a big seller and with the changeover, I wouldn’t read too much into the sales until the new one is properly rolled out. Quite a lot of people do not care at all how much of a nut the CEO is.

I’ve been thinking of swapping my SLK for a Polestar 2 (used at £20k to £25k). When it comes down to it I keep backing out though, I like the Polestar a lot but it doesn’t really replace the enjoyment I get from the SLK (although the SLK is thirsty and unpleasant to drive at night sitting low with all the SUVs. coming the other way). Any other suggestions? Not Tesla though because I like buttons

The van test would be great with say a euro pallet of bricks in the back to give a real world test verdict. Possibly contact one of the national building supply companies and give them a plug in the videos.😊

    Winter range.
I understand that in the UK doesnt have the Dongfeng Nammi Box.
What would you say, that our Nammi Box is doing around 5 mile per kWh in the last 3 months, over 5.300km.
Roads driven are mainly 37mph and 50mph and about 10% 60mph. Always to the max of the speedlimit.

Your EV9 owning listener worried about winter range loss might be able to help themselves. There are a lot of reasons for EV range reduction in winter, but one of the larger effects is caused by the increase in aerodynamic drag from colder air being more dense than warmer air. They might try reducing their speed by a few miles per hour. It can be surprising what a difference a speed reduction can make, and doubly so in winter.

The Farizon (BYD brand) Supervan t ht Tom is testing can be had in a version without a b-pillar which could be very useful for access, plus has all the other requirements sliding door, power tailgate and low loading floor

ID7 after 2 weeks is getting me 3.9 miles / kWh with heating on, preconditioning and moxed commute mileage. I do though drive pretty carefully though and with the milderr weather I am getting over 4 !!

The CLA with the overdrive mode will be a game changer if they pull it off as it will give that better range when cruising at speed on the motorway.

I’ve heard people say the Norwegian test, despite being on public roads isn’t particularly representative of real world use – I think they restricted speeds etc

I am writing to tell you that I have owned and driven a GWM Ora Funky Cat/03 for 18 months and have absolutley nothing to report or complain about. The car still goes in winter, it hasn’t caught fire or thrown a wobbly on a motorway. I charge at home overnight at a cost of 6.9p per kWh but, best of all, it has enabled me to achieve a boyhood ambition (details available on demand!).

For the van testing, it might be worth getting a couple standard Euro pallets, and something like a plastic water tank so you can test up-to the van’s weight capacity by adjusting water volume carried/check handling as a load moves/sloshes around. Most vans will struggle to get to 250 miles range in summer, so a say 300 mile one day route would be good – can it recharge enough on a lunchbreak. Then choose routes that test city manoeuvring, can it get down a narrow street, how easy is it to reverse around a corner, how easy is load access in a tight parking spot and multi-stop route mapping for delivery drop offs.

An MPV might suit Mr Watt’s needs? Something like the Ford E‑Tourneo Courier or Peugeot e-Rifter.
