Why aren’t more EV constructors following the same approach?

Cost of development and potential market penetration.

What approach? The modular style, most do already. Maybe not the drop on rear modules, but I kinda doubt we will actually see many of them.

Do we have range figures yet? Specifically in the bigger battery. And also charge speeds?

Considering the size options and of the batteries and possibly LFP chemistry along with its very boxy shape. I would assume the range is at least 20-40 miles below the ID Buzz which has a bigger battery, at min.. Thus here across the pond would not make it practical for camping. It will be great for cities deliveries and contractors and suburban families for soccer outings but long distant haulers they will not be.

The Buzz’s range is what kills it. Its a travel van with the distance of a small car

I drove from Yorkshire to the South of Spain in my ID.Buzz. At UK speeds you charge for 20 minutes every 3 to 4 hours or at French motorway speeds every 2-3 hours. It’s not a hardship as the charging curve is incredible. My journey was in winter too.

Yeah, I’ve never quite understood why of the vans available almost all do not have an option for a bigger battery. There are many van using jobs that go long distance and/or carry heavy loads. Then V2L would be very useful for many and for that you want spare battery. But most seem to have 40kWh batteries when many of the cars are rolling about with 70kWh batteries. I do not understand, like I say.

@kalebdaark100 there’s even more short range use cases for commercial van use.
Most tradies drive under 100km a day – so why should they have a 150kW monster battery?

Not a chance this will retail for ~£30,000!

I agree, the cargo version may be £30k + VAT if they strip everything out.

Kia have been hitting it out of the park in recent years. Super excited about the camper version!

Yes, this is what I’ve been waiting for. I always thought the Buzz would just be a fashion item, and actual people movers and camper vans would come from the Kias and Skodas of this world.

I still miss my old T25, so am interested, the SLD looks a bit narrow, more the width of the smaller vans, will a pallet go in that way?

As a wheelchair user, the PV5 excites me immensely. Also, the Kia design language appeals to me too. Much more upmarket and futuristic than offerings from the VW, Ford and Vauxhall camp. Kia continue to outshine most makes in every way.

Sounds promising. Love the modular nature of this vehicle something for everyone 😊
Hope during development they got realtime feedback from others users of wheel chairs to discover what people actually need and want😊

Its reported they are targeting an entry level at about £30k. Most people will likely want a higher spec model than that but it indicates that this won’t be a £75k van.

Can see this being added to the Royal Mail fleet, already at over 6000 EV vans, the price will be key

Looks interesting and with a van at that price a camper version would still be expensive but nowhere near as bad as some.

Whilst still making ICE, Kia are properly invested in EVs for every application. Good on them!

    1. @Bardghost_Isu Avatar
      @Bardghost_Isu

Agreed, While all the other companies are treating it as fully committing to one pathway or the other, with some token options in the other sector, or doing designs that are based around being ICE but then retrofitting it with EV tech with major disadvantages, Kia seem to just be playing the smart move of still making most of their old ICE models and bringing in brand new EV designs that sit alongside the ICE’s.

Anyone remember the GMC vans of the ‘70s? That looks like the A-Team bought a GMC van. That’s not an insult but a remembrance of when vans looked like working load carries, not like some designs for a Vogue camera shoot.

Kia need to look at Mitsubishi’s old Delica range for some 4×4 inspiration into off roading capability.
I used to have an old Delica and it was brilliant. 6 seats in a 2+2+2 with the middle row being _captains chairs_ that could rotate and stack upright against the front seats so when the rear seats were folded up against the side of the Delica, you have a huge loading area. Great for when a couple of use used to go out carp fishing for the weekend as we could load everything in so easily. And being 4×4, when friends had been to a country show or air show and it had rained _(After all, this is the UK and it always rains on bank holidays!),_ getting out of muddied car park fields was a doddle and a profitable one too. _”Oi! mate. Give you £20 if you can tow us out?”_
