Is this, the Kia EV5, the electrical Sportage everybody's been awaiting? Ginny takes a very first drive in the current addition to Kia's fast-growing EV line-up. Sitting just below the EV9 in the brand name's SUV variety, the EV5 brings the usefulness of the Sportage into the electrical age, with strong SUV styling, a practical interior, and lots of clever tech.

In this video, Ginny explores what makes the EV5 such a crucial design for Kia, takes a look at its range and charging choices, and learns whether it has what it requires to take on rivals like the Tesla Model Y and Ford Explorer.

A friend of mine bought a new Sportage hybrid about a year ago. I hadn’t previously looked at one closely, and was impressed with both the design and the quality. The interior looked to be really well laid out and nicely appointed.

@@rlinkandroidauto-xe9sgIt is quite expensive and yet it is missing the key technology for the future: 800V and a highly sophisticated ADAS

If the KIA EV4 is the Golf of the electric world than this new EV5 is a Tiguan, the SUV of electric 🌎🌍😅. I love the design, definitely can’t hide is KIAs electric model. With it’s looks I would love to see KIA giving this EV5 rugged looking treatment and the 4wd, making it proper weekend getaway SUV. Great video keep it up 🤟🤩

It is not a sports car. So it already too aggressive. Makes no sense and aggresive is ugly.
Just make a normal car that laughs to you, so this one or de IX1 or IX3 they are even more ugly and more aggressive for nothing to drive 30kph or 20mph 😂.
It are people that think you walk on my doorstep for a meeting, and think I watch what you drive as a client… nooo I do not care.
We drive a VW lupo, and on the contrary all my clients adore it.
Will soon be changed to a Kia Ceed. As an accountant I prefer to keep the money for extra courses or important investments.

Same as people say I need to make costs, no you do not if you do not need it, then you will earn more 😉

Hi Ginny, I have the EV3, which is perfectly big enough for a family car in my opinion. Mine has the AI assistant but we have never used it. Occasionally it thinks it has heard someone in the car ask it something, and starts telling us stuff we don’t want to know.

@stepheng8779 Do you know how much a Sportage Sportage ‘GT-Line S’ petrol auto costs now? (£40,850) and this at GT-Line is £42,595 – spec for spec pretty similar cars albeit not exactly the ‘same’

“the EV5 misses out on getting the faster 800V electrical system like some of Kia’s other electric cars. Instead it shares the 400V system, which is good for efficiency”…good for efficiency?

7:48 yes… everytime we have a conversation on the car, and I want to do a fact checking I am frustrated to hear ‘I can’t show you the answer while you are driving’ from my Siri/chatGPT/Perplexity combo. even when I am asking yes/no question. I wish I would have system integrated with the car

The EV5 feels very similar to my Grandland (but better looking in my opinion). Similar size and performance. That’s no bad thing if you are regularly lugging kids or a boot full of junk around! With regards ChatGPT, I believe mine has it, but I’ve never used it. There’s a subscription cost to it as well, just to make it even less appealing! I wonder if it could tell the kids to stop arguing automatically though? 😉

I really like this as a package. More space than the EV3, not as long as the EV9, nor Model Y. Has physical controls for the essentials like HVAC. Looks are subjective but to me it’s better than the usual soap bar. Pano roof blind is just plain sensible. So yes, no ground breaking stand out features, but a rare blend of sensible stuff in a good looking body.

A nice trick is to program the programmable button on the steering wheel to bring up the climate screen. That turns the whole infotainment screen into a climate screen.

These electric Kia’s are going to do extremely well.

Yes the design is bold but in a very good way. Way better than some of the competition which are just featureless smoothed blobs.

If I was looking to buy a car it would be this one, the only thing I don´t like is the 400V architecture instead of the 800V that EV6 and EV9 has. Rapid charging is the future. 233KW charging is sufficient, becomes around 15m stop typically which is perfect for me.

As much as the Kia Sportage was the stand out car and beat seller for Kia for years now I think this may be their best selling EV.

  19. @jenschristianandersen9260 Avatar
    @jenschristianandersen9260

I know they went with the 400V architecture to make the price more affordable, but it would be really nice if they offered a top spec version with the 800V system from the EV6. I would pay the extra money for that.
