3.3-liter was more efficient than 1.6-liter… let that sink in lol

I find it impossible to take seriously any comment ending in – “let that sink in”. They are both ICE engines, which are only around 30% efficient at best…..

It’s cause of the cylinder shutoff feature. Wouldn’t be surprised if the CX-80 was effectively using less than half its displacement. Impressive nonetheless.

A diesel was more efficient than a petrol…. Obviously

Having driven thousands of miles for decades, diesel was just a nicer drive for a motorway slog or the torque around town .. classic government, tax you into something then tax you out of it … waiting to see how they tax my solar as I pay naff all to run my car now 😂

@@Brian-om2hh no Bazza, driven the Hyundai, but not saying I would buy that Mazda, it was a headline of are diesel’s still relevant, caveat admittedly, they ended as a vehicle comparison, but my point, if I am allowed to have one in Bazzaland!, some companies made incredible diesel engines that have been taxed off the road, who cares maybe, you tell me and I will agree to whatever you tell us all is right, so sorry for even commenting, how dare I

The issue with diesel was that politicians believed the goal was to lower CO2 rather than reduce emissions overall. When the data started coming in on air quality, the realisation was we either need to make diesels 10 times more complicated to meet emissions standards or make another switch.

This is what will definitely happen to wood burning stoves and pellet boilers.

Politicians get a lot wrong mainly because people want quick solutions to complex problems and aren’t willing to wait for more data before making a change.

Personally I loved my diesel work vehicles on a long haul but then I didn’t have to look after or tax the things.

It’s a nicer car, and diesels generally hold their own well against petrol hybrids, although SkyActive diesels don’t have a great reliability reputation.

The amount of bots in the comment section. Also, despite the CX-80 being slightly more expensive, I would go for the Mazda amid the look of it.

How much AdBlu would the diesel use over 10k miles, it’s never mentioned in the ‘economy’ stats of these cars.

My Adblue tank is full and it’s telling me it can do 9,500 miles.
That’s a Two litre Octavia diesel.
On a recent trip in Eco
      I managed 74 mpg on A , B and motorway over 144 miles.

As a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid owner, I like the car and I think it’s great. But as a hybrid, it’s not the most fuel efficient.

It’s huge, heavy and shaped like a brick. Can’t imagine it’s that aerodynamic on the M4.

Very interesting test, although I think it would have been ideal to use an identical car with different engines, so that all other variables such as are the same. That said, it’s not that easy to do these days as many companies that still produce diesels haven’t developed competitive hybrid powertrains and others have stopped producing diesels altogether.

Adding my 2 cent, a heavy car moves easy when pushed by a big engine.

Small engine struggles with the weight so it over works at lower gears which is more important in efficiency

Maybe the Santa FE against the CX-80 PHEV which uses a 2.5L engine

But I get it’s hybrid vs diesel, great content 🎉

Why o why doesn’t mazda fit adaptive dampers to its cx-60 and cx-80 models ? It’s so well documented that there ride is too harsh.even the recent cx-60 hasn’t had them fitted, crazy.

That’s a big diesel engine. I wonder how the santa fe would compare against one of the kodiaq diesels. They are much cheaper too with more boot space however less comfortable in 3rd row

Drove a cx80 from Manchester to york then onto st albans in one day and felt great? Excellent seat comfort and back support for me. Stunning Bose stereo and very quiet and refined. Step up on my friends 50tdi audi. Driver must have a back problem. The Hyundai looks are something only a mother could love too.
