      They usually charge around 7kw at home, so charging on the go won’t be spectacular.

      Best of both worlds. Run around locally in EV mode, save the petrol for long journeys. Perfect intro to EVs.

    As a current owner of a 2026 VW Passat e-hybrid black edition I say avoid all VW group cars in 5,000 miles it’s emergency braked 4 times for no reason it calls up VW UK when opening the electric sunroof and also the wipers come on when turning the ignition on if in auto. The car drives nice enough but now always on edge if its going to slam the brakes on when a car is passing in town. It’s 100% my last car from the brand. VW UK couldn’t care less just tell you to visit a dealership that want nearly £200 to diagnose a 6 month old car.

      I’ve a 2025 plug in hybrid Tiguan. For the same braking reasons it has been in VW Ayr for 4 days as part recall to reset software. Loan car given. This seems to have fixed issues

      A friend had exactly the same braking issue in one of the smaller SUVs, thinking T-Roc, to the point where she got rear ended on the motorway….. as mentioned above, VW didn’t seem to care.

      ​@decker0373hi, there is a software recall for tiguan. Its not just VW my sons CLA is worse and Merc said nothing wrong. The software update is P4TG and labelled VW software upgrade. Ive just looked the paperwork. Tbf my VW garage has been good.

      ​​@johnhunter6290my local dealership said no update available for mine? I’ve contacted VW UK again tonight waiting for a reply. I just drove the NC500 in a CLA electric it also emergency braked when it picked a car up parked on a grass verge on a bend I half expected it and it wasn’t as violent as in the Passat.

      I’ve had a 2025 Passat Phev for 12 months and it has been faultless.
      Calling VW UK when opening the sunroof is caused by your fingers. It is not a fault.
      If the wiper switch has been left on and there is a wet windscreen the wipers will operate briefly when the ignition is switched on.
      Again it is not a fault.

    The XC90 isn’t fast as it’s only limited to 112MPH, it’s quick though with a 0-60 in the low 5s.

    I don’t get how you can highly recommend the MG HS PHEV, but not the Temu range rover. both are utterly horrific to drive, and fall apart as soon as you leave the dealer.

    How come the Geely Starray was not in the list?
    Long pure electric range of 82 miles and good value for money. Even top range with bigger battery and fast charging is less then £35000.

    Go for a Chinese Model Geely Starray owned by Volvo you can’t go wrong 8 year warranty 30 grand for a brand new one.

    Usually a big fan of What Car? But not this time. Why all the over emphasis on German marks? Are they really the best? Not in my book. Too expensive and their longevity and reliability questionable. Why no Japanese brands

    Cracking selection of cars as always but are any of the upcoming BYD Atto 2 or BYD Dolphin PHEV’s inline for one of your reviews? Sadly a lot of PHEV’s cost in excess of £40,000 making them liable for the £600 a year tax for the first 6 years

    I’m shocked! I owned a MG HS for three months last year and got rid of it because the driving dynamics were that awful. This makes me question the integrity of people who recommend these cars..

    The one you always miss is a Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid. Big chunky roomy car, brilliant e-cvt gearbox, genuine 45-50 miles of range, and Toyota legendary reliability. Then go one better and get the Suzuki Across which is a Rav4 rebadged, there are a few new ones lett at around £35k
