For some the Porsche 911 going hybrid was a step too far. I spent a week with the car and got a few individuals I understand to give me their truthful viewpoint about the current 992.2 generation of the Porsche 911.

    That start button is awful innit
    Someone, somewhere is going to make a button to replace that I bet, like the guys that put apple carplay in old Aston Martin’s!!

    And yeh the all digital screen is a miss and the exhaust position IMO.
    I’m seen a trend lately where older Porsches are either disappearing off Autotrader or going up in price because new cars have no soul in them because of restrictions and technology rammed in them.

    The 911 GT3 Touring(my dream car) is an example there were a lot for sale at one time and now half have gone as the newer 911s sound dull.

    Perhaps, it’s my age, but after the 991.1 Carrera S it didn’t get any better with regards to driving fun. 400 BhP is really enough for having fun on European B-roads. More is, with all respect, only necessary for people with ego issues. So I really do compliment you with the 718 Spyder!

    I just hate centre locks. Has them on a previous gen GTS, they go milky if you so much as show them even the mildest cleaning products and are £1k a set to replace. Then there are the tyre places that cant get the wheels off, not to mention the grief if you’re on a road trip in the middle of nowhere. Would never spec them on any Porsche. I’d also bet they don’t save a gram of weight either! I’m not offended by the Hybrid bit, its an as well not instead of. Drove one at PEC Silverstone and it was a hoot. Just that these are well over £150k with a few bits. Quite a lot for sale new and lightly used with decent discounts so they aren’t flying out of the door at the moment.

    As a Porsche fan, I’m sure they will do the hybrid gubbins as well as anyone and better than most. But before anyone gets too excited, I suggest they read the Porsche care advice for the hybrid battery. It’s eye-opening.

      As the owner of a 992.1 GTS I’m contemplating one of the new T-Hybrids but, like others, I’m still concerned that this is new technology and Porsche haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory with the Taycan. Where can the “care advice” you mention be found?

    I was tempted to go approved used 911 after my Defender 90 goes back in 2027. I’m going in reverse and going to buy a 10year plus old 500bhp Rangie Sport with the 5.0L Supercharged for less than £10K outright. Sub 6 to 60. Chop out middle box for some noise. No modern gizmos etc. No DPF. No OPF. No ADAS. No start stop. No lane assist bollox etc etc 😊

      Dude, you can’t compare a jeep to a 911 other than price points. Completely different vehicles. My G82 M4 does 0-60 in about half of the Range River, would I compare the two – not a chance.

    I’m slightly worried about my 992.1S coming out of warranty… I can’t imagine the anxiety of owning a hybrid system out of warranty ….

    Hi Pete, I believe the 991.1 gts had 480bhp and the 992.2 has 534bhp. Better to have the seats at the back as they have a seat belt fitting to attach a dogs harness.

    The soundtrack is definitely specific to this car but quite addictive. The slower downshifts come as a bit of a surprise but Porsche will probably find a way to remedy that on their next generation. The performance is mind boggling – I thought, as an owner, it was already impressive on the 992.1 GTS, and yes the PDK shifter, the piano black nonsense and the start push button are an irritating presence. I would get the comfort seats, far more practical and satisfying on road-trips and such. All told, what a car ! 😎

    If the objective is to go fast, then the hybrid is better. IF the objective is to go even faster then pure electric is better still. If the objective is to enjoy the interaction between man and machine, then there’s a lot to be said for a Miata or a BRZ. I think that Porsche is in a tough spot trying to sell pure IC vehicles that are becoming increasingly uncompetitive with electric alternatives, when the whole point of these cars is that they re supposed to be faster.

    It used to be that the reason to buy a Porsche or Corvette was because they were faster, but they really aren’t any longer. In an era when you can buy a $60k Tesla Model 3 Performance or an Ioniq 5N, cars that are faster than any Porsche that’s twice as expensive, you can’t really justify the purchase based on rational factors. So now it’s the sound and feel. The problem here is that most higher performance German cars aren’t even sold with manual transmissions. So, what’s the point?

    Hopefully battery technology will continue to improve quickly, and Porsche can transition their cars to full EV at a rate that helps petrol heads make the change.

    As for the GTS, it’s a great Porsche. Just as Ferrari has done so well with the 296, Porche is offering an “economy” alternative to that car. The problem for Porsche is that while the 296 is truly a worldbeater, a car whose performance pretty much can’t be beat, the GTS is less than that. It’s almost as though Porsche might be better off with a modern day version of the 356…something that’s not based on being the fastest thing around, but something that is just really fun to drive at real world speeds. Being stuck in the middle, as Porsche is, is a bad place to be right now.

    Great video,nice to have the various views on the car,very positive and seems like the most useful for most people rather than having to drive it like you stole it to appreciate it.     Good to see that Porsche are continuing with their engineering genius as an alternative way to meet the ever tightening emissions regulations. Goodyear tyres though Ped, did you have to have a good wash afterwards?? Great video👍👍.

    Got a 992.1 gts that’s a year old now. Was at Porsche experience at silverstone recently and drove the .1 and .2 back to back. .2 was very slightly quicker to launch but overall it didn’t feel any quicker than the .1. Maybe it’s the extra weight it carries, maybe it’s just me not good enough to tell. What I can say for definite is the .2 is a lot noisier in the cabin and I wouldn’t want to drive it all day.

    The lazy downshifts can be fixed by leaving it in sports mode. Which has the added bonus of the sports exhaust being on. 😊

    A friend has just bought one of these and has recently returned from a road trip in Spain – perfect car for it. I couldn’t live with centre locks and can’t see any benefit to them at all – also I would be slightly anxious about all that tech. I’m happy with my comparatively slow 991.1 C4S – which is my summer road trip barouche – unlike Tracy, my other half loves a Euro road trip every year. 🙂

    Ended up ordering the 992.2 S as it has the 992.1 GTS engine and will be ample enough. I suspect the next S will be hybrid so think values may hold better than expected?
