McLaren Artura v Lambo Perf v Porsche 911 Turbo: DRAG RACE

Huracan Performante

www.autotorque.net

National pride is at stake as British engineering takes on the might of the Italians and Germans in today's .

The latest vehicle from Woking, the , is making its drag race launching here. Powered by a brand new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 linked to an electric motor, the Artura produces 680hp and 800Nm. That makes it the most effective here, though its oppositions are no complete strangers to a competitive carwow drag race.

Right beside the Arutra is the Huracan Performante. Now a stalwart of the supercar world, its 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 kicks out 640hp and 600Nm. Though down on the McLaren for power, it makes use of an all-wheel-drive system – unlike the rear-wheel-drive Brit – so grip could be in its favour.

Including more fuel to the very first is the king of introducing, the Turbo S. Its 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six produces 650hp and 800Nm and, if you're familiar with these parts, you know it's going to have no problem putting it down.

Rather the line-up, then. Which of these supercars will fly its country's flag highest?

LET'S RACE!

Lamborghinis and Mclarens are proper super cars and have no business losing to a 911 Turbo S. They should hang their heads in shame

For the break test, I think Lambo’s downshifting while breaking adds up a significant difference which I’ve never seen someone else doing it on carwow videos that I’ve watched before.

I think the lambo stopped in shorter distance because Sam was shifting down gears to help the breaks while Daniel was just holding on for dear life haha

    1. zix zix zix Avatar
      zix zix zix

The Lambo did not have to downshift in order to win; its brakes can easily block the wheels anyway. Therefore, those downshifts were immaterial.

    2. Vehicle Premium Avatar
      Vehicle Premium

I think too the same thing😅, because was down shift continuesly , braking is more easy…

    3. Vehicle Premium Avatar
      Vehicle Premium

@zix zix zix when we talk about a 5.2 fsi engine, believe me….. it is not “immaterial”, the appropriate expression would be differentiator… .

    4. zix zix zix Avatar
      zix zix zix

@Vehicle Premium I don’t think you’re getting my point. When you’re braking with a Performante (i.e. with a car equipped with one of the strongest braking systems in the auto industry) the only limiting factor is the grip of your tires; NOT the brakes themselves. Downshifting would only be beneficial to the braking if the limiting factor was the strength of the braking system (i.e. if the vehicle has weak brakes), because doing so would use the transmission to produce engine-braking, thus assisting the normal brakes of the vehicle to decelerate the vehicle. This is clearly not the case here.

Sam was downshifting in the brake test which gave him some advantage, and I think he pressed the pedal a tad early as well.. anyways, that 992 Turbo S is still the benchmark for me.. don’t know how Porsche will improve this in the facelift 😀

    4. Jabari Phillips Avatar
      Jabari Phillips

@Oscar I have a feeling additional power gains will most likely be noticeable at higher speeds vs. Porsche programming a more aggressive launch (due to limited traction)

    1. Cylent One Avatar
      Cylent One

I had the opportunity to work for Porsche in Germany years ago. When the 996 Turbo was launched, many within Porsche called it “Die Sau” = “The sow” because the 4WD made it so heavy and made the steering sluggish. I got to drive the the next generation 997 Turbo (“only” 480hp and 620Nm) and it was breathtaking. Nobody made fun of that version. Talking to the Weissach engineers – they only want to make their sports cars fast on the road & track, no unnecessary bells & whistles. Typical German 😉

The 911 Turbo has been the acceleration king for so long (for non-electric) that it’s mythical now and should get a lifetime award.

    1. Lee Avatar
      Lee

Maybe the 0-60 king but absolutely not the acceleration king. All of the McLaren’s accelerate far harder when on a decent surface. The 720/765LT pass the Porsche Turbo like it’s broken down. The Turbo gets away from the start extremely well thanks to AWD and the engine placement but after the start, it becomes a sitting duck for far faster cars. I still love the Turbo more than the other super cars but lets be real, once the launch is done comparatively in it’s class it’s not actually very fast.
