The Electric Range Rover Is Here… But There’s a Catch

Check out the review:

The Range Rover has been a symbol of success, high-end and uncomplicated ability considering that 1970. However can its famous mix of comfort, improvement and go-anywhere capability endure the switch to electric power?
Nicola Hume gets behind the wheel of the all-new Variety Rover Electric, a high-end SUV that promises to deliver whatever we like about the original– without the petrol or diesel motor.

With prices beginning at ₤ 154,070 and increasing to ₤ 225,240, this is a seriously expensive electric vehicle. But what do you get for your cash?
Twin electrical motors produce 542hp and 850Nm of torque, with four-wheel drive and instant electrical punch. There's a substantial 118kWh battery, an official range of approximately 372 miles and ultra-rapid charging at up to 350kW.

And this isn't just a high-end roadway cruiser. Variety Rover assures that its electric variation will be simply as capable off-road as its combustion-engined brother or sisters, with advanced traction control, remarkable ground clearance and the ability to tackle serious surface.

Inside, anticipate delicious products, remarkable personalisation alternatives and all the space you 'd anticipate from a Range Rover. However with rivals including the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Volvo EX90, BMW iX5 and the new electric Bentley, is it still the supreme luxury SUV?

We explore the driving experience, real-world variety, charging performance, interior quality and off-road ability to discover whether going electric makes the Variety Rover even much better– or whether its rivals have stolen some of its crown.

Would you choose the electrical Variety Rover or spend your ₤ 150,000-plus on a Bentley instead? Let us understand in the remarks!

      @gregcooper2719the extra portion on the back of the rear seats seems like such a waste of space.

      @waynerm002 The back of the rear seats is the trunk/boot. Isn’t that kind of useful?

      @waynerm002

      @geoffhaylock6848When the seat is electronically lifted into place, the seat back moves forward, off that partition. That portion is separate from the seat back.

    Nicola, you are a very special person. I don’t know a single other car reviewer who would bother drinking Irn Bru on camera, in Scotland (and complementing it!). You are a very clever cookie!

    Great review as always!

    I like the interior and specs, however, manual seats for the back would be for my liking. I’m looking forward to their smaller version Evoque EV.

    Somehow I’m pretty sure this will be the most reliable RR in comparison to the gas ones..

    3. @PaulMH45 Avatar
      @PaulMH45

      @geoffhaylock6848None but a mate of mine owned a newer one used to pick me up and take me to work in it. He told me it had nothing but issues kept breaking down modules failing inside the car with in a couple of months of owning it. He’s got rid of it and got a new car now. They are nothing but trouble. Even his wife had issues with it it broke down four times when she was taking it to do her shopping. They are glad they got rid of it!

      Ehh these do actually do some SOFTroading on owner’s rural property. It’s overkill for that purpose but it will very much be driven that way.

      So it can park half on the pqvement, half on the road, on double yellow lines? Does it have flashing yellow lights indicating that the cloaking device is acticated? Sorted.

    The electrification of cupholders and seats etc in the back frustrates me just watching it on YouTube! How about a beautifully engineered soft/open close mechanism? Would look, feel and sound much more premium than hearing a whiny electric motor strain to slowly complete the task. And it’ll definitely go wrong at some point.

    Towing a horse box will probably drop the range to 150 miles. Hopefully this could spark car manufacturers and trailer/caravan makers to create a standard for trailer battery extension. Meaning that the trailer could have a battery that the car could use as it’s own.

    1. @drfisheye Avatar
      @drfisheye

      That could double the price of the trailer. Would it be worth it over just visiting a fast charger a bit more often? It would also make the trailer much heavier. Which could be a problem.

    2. @philipprice9633 Avatar
      @philipprice9633

      I’m guessing most people spending £200000 on a car probably aren’t worrying too much about long distance horse box towing
