      I have found insurance companies are quite harsh on modified cars these days, When getting insurance it often says no modifications are allowed. Both my brother and I have had policies with that written in to it. Direct Line used to say I had to notify them and ask before getting the mod, I remember saying I want a new exhaust and would rather have a stainless steel with a life time warranty built on the car, permission given. another was service time can i fit a reusable air filter rather than a throw away one, again go ahead. now it’s go to a specialist.

      As soon as you start a car it`s wearing out thus MPG, Emissions will be different also fuel octane effects emissions poorly maintained engines effect emissions even thicker oil on old engines effect emissions will the government pay for replacement engines eg Ford Eco-boost… ???

      So current 0wners have to make sure their car meets the emissions as set out by the manufacture ?
      Only problem with that is companies producing cars didn’t even meet the claimed emissions as soon
      as it left the factory ….. Stand up VW and probably a host more who had cheating software on
      the car. And as the the great CO2 con its not as harmful as its made out because 425 PPM is only
      0.042 % is a minute amount of trace gas that little to none effect, especially when u take into account
      the the GHG effect is NOT Linear its Logarithmic .

    The problem is that a lot of these systems are not fit for purpose and fail on a regular basis
    Repair is then often very costly and in the case of older vehicles, potentially more than the value of the vehicle itself
    The owner then finds themselves in a catch 22; cannot afford the repair but also cannot afford to replace the vehicle

      My mate has a 900bhp + Nissan GTR and his car meets the ULEZ emissions standards so he can drive it in and around London…….

      yep thats the actual plan , got 3grand car runs fine and th cat fails/degrades now you gotta find anew oem cat if you can at maybe 1500 quid its a right off even though aftermarket one would right now work fine . they are trying to get us off the roads and force ev

      @stuartjones3684I didn’t say anything about his MOT 🤷🏻‍♂️ but put his registration into the London ULEZ checker and according to that it’s allowed to enter

    The Goverment can foxtrot oscar. If a car passes MOT that should be sufficient. And additionally, they can get rid of the ludicrous, so called ‘luxury car’ tax. Since it was brought in 2017, the threshold has remained at £40k and since then with car price rises, inflation, hundreds of cars have now breached that threshold, most of which you cartainly wouldn’t class as luxury cars. Absolute robbing barstewards!

    All the effort on this but they won’t do anything about how we can’t get a doctors appointment and we’re unsafe on our own streets in major towns and cities because of all the knife/gun crime 👍

    Engine Tuner here, specifically in the Saab world. For us this will not make any difference since the Idle, Fast Idle and Cruise condition maps are either the same, or cleaner than original. Where this will fall down is “Meeting the same emissions figures as new”. Since all engines wear and the emissions levels get slightly worse as they get older. In particular HC PPM. So this plan is somewhat flawed from the outset.

      Part of the plan, fail the test due to high mileage but standard spec and the cars scrap, newer car required……Labour voters being poor will be disproportionately affected 🤣

      The OBD system (part of the engine ECU strategy) monitors the catalyst performance. EU regs state the catalyst system must continue to meet the emissions standard for 160,000 km. If not your MIL (engine fault warning) will come on.

    Apologies if someone has already mentioned this. As I understand it the proposed new law will seek to test that ALL cars will meet their original emissions standards when brand new as introduced. No allowance for aging, fair wear and tear etc. The MOT will check the vehicle against the brand new emissions claimed at registration and maintained by correct maintenance.
    Let me state the obvious: no 2001 onward car has a hope in hell of passing that delivery standard of emissions test unless it was SORNed and cotton wooled and never driven. The new regulations proposed are a clear attempt to remove functional ice engined vehicles by creating hurdles too high. Ordinary vehicles and upwards are at risk. Not just modified ones. Respond to the consultation ASAP.

      @PhilMacVeeIt’s a common phrase, one used semi-humorously or ironically, which has become meme-like; an idiom suggesting widespread acknowledgment, or even approval from some unarmed higher authority.     The point you’re missing is they expect the car to test at the same rate as when it was new. So if you’re 5yr old car has a dpf or gpf that isn’t quite as perfect as when it was new, you’ve now got to go out and buy a new one. That’s another ridiculous throw away situation that is going to become so wasteful. But of course if you pay a bit more then they’ll probably let it slide – just like ULEZ.

    The bottom line is that lots of motorists don’t want an EV – or a complex and expensive to maintain ICE vehicle… so they’re hanging on to what they’ve got for a lot longer!!
    ADDITIONALLY, the DVSA are almost certainly looking for work. 🤔

      It’s not even a want. It’s a can’t. Over half of the people don’t even have a driveway. It makes zero sense to have an EV if you don’t have a driveway because of the inconvenience and how expensive it is to publicly charge

    As we’ve seen with VW and others, some of these cars didn’t actually meet the required emissions standards when they were new without software manipulating their behaviour during the official tests. So if they couldn’t genuinely meet those standards when brand new, how can we realistically expect the same cars to pass them years later as second-hand vehicles? Regardless of being modified
