I’ve had two XC40s. T3 R Design Pro and B4 Ultimate Dark. I enjoyed both very much 😊

If the original XC90 design was anything to go by then Volvo will keep this design for 12 years!

If you were shopping for a new premium family SUV today, where would your money go?

    A) Volvo XC40 (I want superb interior quality and comfort) 🛋️
    B) BMW X1 (I prefer a firmer ride and it has a bigger boot) 🏁
    C) Audi Q3 (I love the styling and the clever rear saets) 🇩🇪

For less than 30000 pounds 💷 better to buy MG HS plug-in hibrid 18 kwh.

Why all the talk about performance for a family SUV!?
It seems to be common flaw when family cars are reviewed, it is like every car reviewer spends way to much attention to performance.
Review cars for whom they are meant to, not for hooligans or reviewers.

      A) So I’ll hang on for the all new EX & EC40 next year. ☺️ No point buying the outgoing model from new when there are so many used bargains available.

There’s a ton of EVs that do better than these.

@Sjalabais Yes, only those that want an EV are likely looking at EV’s.

Replaced our Tiguan with a newly new XC40 B4 AWD R-Design Pro in 2021 and although I had some reservations initially, it has totally won me over. It has been very practical, superbly comfortable, has great equipment levels, excellent build quality and has that chunky Tonka Toy styling. The ride quality more than makes up for the less sharp handling compared to some rivals and we have even got used to the entertainment system. My only complaints are poor fuel consumption, it struggles to do much more than 32 mpg and high servicing costs. As a long standing Audi buyer, I see Volvo now personifying many of the brand values that I used to associate with Audi. It has also been 100% reliable over the past 5 years, not a single issue.

In the race to the bottom in the premium car sector, Volvo has remained steadfastly dedicated to good quality and design and the fact that you can recommend this car so many years after it was launched is perhaps the greatest recognition of that.

Likewise. On our second B4 Ultimate. Recently borrowed a friends brand new Rangie Sport and as a family we agreed we preferred the XC40 for seats and ride!

I have an XC40 ult. it’s a great car and this review captures the best bits of it well. The adaptive headlights are fantastic and worth the upgrade as is the harman stereo.

However, I’ve had to replace rear discs and pads at 30k miles (which I’ve never had to do in any previous cars) and servicing costs are high if you don’t have a deal for them when you buy the car.

Perfect example of how car makers say there isn’t the demand for EVs there is for ICE when the EV is priced at £8k more. Can’t believe the industry expects people to think that isn’t maybe the issue

Also, with Volvo part of the Geely group hard to imagine that it costs them more to make the EV version.(Unlike other brands which have limited expertise in making and building EVs).

Xc40 interior is just on of the best in this class. It’s a shame that Audi and BMW went down market on interior execution of their newest models. The XC40 has just aged gracefully with very little compromises which you have stated in the review.

Slightly tired of saying this to Apple owning reviewers. The Google based system in a Volvo, if you sign in, allows you to change the temperature by voice, amongst other things, using Gemini. Otherwise, as always, a great review.

Mom haveone, 2019 T5 XC40. Its been a great car and never had any problems with it. Its great for city driving and road travels. Its not far behind the current crop of compact premium SUV’s to be honest.

I’d like to believe that others will agree that your full and expansive review touched all the important points. Especially appreciated, is the emphasis that it’s mainly a FAMILY SUV and that handling takes second place to ride comfort.
Was interesting to notice a duplicate yellow number plate in the boot, is the tow bar one of those hidden below the bumper chappies?

We have all season tyres on ours and live on a hill in Yorkshire. Never had an issue on slightly snowy roads. If you want to go off roading with a sway bar lock switch then no, not for you!
