Integra Type R or Civic Type R – Is One The Best Handling FWD EVER ?

What is the best handling front wheel drive car of all time? I believe among these two might be in with a shout of that title. First up a JDM import 1999 Honda Integra Type Rx, the OG Type R. Then an FL5 Honda Civic Type R, the extremely last of the Civic Type R family. Which would you select?

What a Friday treat!! Thanks! I drove a UK spec Integra Type R around Thruxton back in 1998 (I think) on an Autocar track day and totally fell in love with it. What a special car!

Had both of these (not the x version ) and the Fk8 , all truly amazing .Only had the FL5 in blue for 12 months , looked spectacular and a joy to drive . Took it to the South of France in September and was really comfortable on a long run

I do love the Type R and very nearly in 2002 bought a red coloured Special Edition with the red interior or the Focus ST170 was my other option but a friend talked me out of both & persuaded me to buy a Land Rover Freelander as I was really into my country sports and I never regretted that decision as shortly after that I moved to The Outer Hebrides and the Freelander was perfect for the island. I did have A Civic Sport+ in the recent past so I can say I have had a Civic but I will always remember my test drive in the Mk1 Type R & I did love the placement of the gear stick. I do like the white on white rims of the Integra very smart.

Great video Pete, the Integra Type R, wow , if you were a young driver in the 90’s, that sat along side the Escort RS Turbo, Astra GTE, Renault 19 16V, Peugeot 209 GTI, for me as the hot hatch legends of the era.

Had a 2000 UKDM DC2 back in the day, owned for 7 odd years, such a special car to drive and gets better the harder you push it. So playful at the limit, and sounds fab doing it. Modern ones are rapid but the n/a B18 is just iconic for me. Also owned an EP3 for ten years, a great chassis but not the same involvement as DC2 (and lacking the Torsen diff).

This is my preferred era of motoring, you can keep your modern Civic and carbon fibre. DC2 or 5, EP3 type R πŸ₯° , had JDMs 90-2006.
Ohh I’m getting goosebumps as it passes 6k, happy memories 😊

I’d be torn between the dc5 integra, and the civic ep3. The gear stick and change in the ep3 was just incredible

Two great cars Ped I would add what is considered the B road king that is the Renault Clio 182 Trophy 2005 but then of course if we talk classics how about the Peugeot 205 GTi (1.6/1.9) boy how I loved that car it’s was just total fun to drive despite the oversteer!
