Can The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Bring Back The Sedan With Long Range and Fast Charging?

361 miles of variety, 18 minute fast charging. If you ever required a factor to think about a brand-new , that's a strong argument. Hyundai arrived by making one of the most effective sedans in America, tying with the significantly more expensive Lucid Air and by utilizing a native 800V architecture laser concentrated on quick charging. Even the 0-100% time is remarkably fast at 43 minutes to a full charge.

I wonder if it would have been hard to have the hinges for a lift back and maintain the shape.

Not hard at all, just lazy engineering.

@Gerard of Cumbria It takes space, they have to be strong ridged hinges near where your head is and where it is arguellaby to tight already.

Absolutely agree with missed liftback opportunity

I really appreciate that they didn’t go in the whole ‘Let’s make this thing like a go-kart’ approach with the suspension. I adore the Tesla lineup but they went overkill with the rough suspension in previous years. Apparently the ride quality improved in the Model 3 and Y but still

I think the Model 3 new suspension is both fun to drive and comfortable. The Model Y….ummm….still rough, but not as bad as before.

I’ve been following the rollout of this car for months, and so far I’ve not seen a single photo or video of the front end with a North American sized license plate affixed. If someone has a link to such a photo, please post it in reply to this comment. I’m wondering where it attaches so that it doesn’t affect either the forward-facing sensors or the air intake louvers. Thanks!

I never put a front license plate on my vehicles even though it’s legally required in my state. I’ve never been pulled over or hassled about it from law enforcement.

@TwoZeroFiveZeroZero That’s interesting. I didn’t know someone could get away with that.

@S Userman It depends on how bored the cops are, but I know plenty of people with tickets for it.

Battery preconditioning has been available on all Ioniq5 since about June 2022 and available as an update for the early AWD Ioniq5 since December 2022. The interesting thing is that the Ioniq6 launches with route planning including charging, which isn’t “officially” available on the Ioniq5 or EV6 (although it can be turned on).

I like the improved efficiency of the Ioniq6 a lot, but I’m not sure its enough for me to overlook the appearance of it compared to my Ioniq5.

This takes the “range anxiety” out of the equation. I can plug in nightly on a regular plug and on weekends it will catch up. WORST case scenario I will have to go to a local level 2 charger to top it off, but why if I have that much range?

almost all evs currently do not have a range problem. they have an infrastructure problem.

We really love our Polestar 2, but I can see why someone would prefer this. I do think the infotainment software is better in the P2.

Damn that base extended range is $500 over the $45k cap to get the $4k discount here in Jersey

If it was a hatchback and if it had smaller wheels on upper trims, I’d be very interested.

The EV range is still going to two hundred something in Northern Tier states with colder climates for at least 5 months out of the year.

When some vehicle manufacturer builds us an EV with 400 miles of range with the heater on and maybe we will get excited.

Even the front seat is claustrophobic in the Polestar 2

The side and rear view of the car is interesting. The front view is boring. The Lidar sensor may not work well in snowy climates?? Once again, priced higher than an ICE. It would be interesting to see the improvement in ICE vehicles mpg if the aerodynamics they build into EV’s was built into ICE. I would not even consider a Polestar since it is built in China. From your review the Ionic 6 seems to be overall a nicer car than the Polestar anyway.

Regarding this versus the Model 3, the Model 3 definitely has its advantages. They have been making EVs for over a decade, not a year or two. The Performance model has tax credits, a national Supercharger network, and outstanding resale value. The Ioniq 6 is better looking, with a more upscale appearance, inside and out, and incredible rear legroom, warranty, and a real dealer network, for service issues.

If you don’t want to be just another guy in a Model 3, the Ioniq 6 is worthy of your consideration.

I like cars. I would get this over the Ioniq 5 just because I don’t want an SUV. And for 360 miles of range that price is a steal! If I didn’t just buy a car, this would be on the top of my list. Assuming dealerships don’t try to price gouge me 🙄

Alex, can you comment on the blurred line between luxury and regular cars, resulting from EVs? For around ~$50k I can get Ioniq 6 or BMW 3 series which have very different interior feels (materials) and dealership experiences. Then a longer range base i4 starts at $57k. The price spread has gotten way more compressed between brands.

This seems like its designed to go after the A3 in that size category, sort of a sub-compact where the 3 is a compact.
