2026 Toyota bZ | Updated, Upgraded, and Expanded

The bZ4x has actually remained in the Toyota lineup for a few years now but it's fallen well short of the appeal of some other Toyota models. There have stood reasons for that but Totyota is making some huge changes for 2026 to address those issues on the (now) bZ along with including more versions. That's right, we now have the closely associated C-HR and bZ Forest added to the electric lineup and each of these includes the exact same, favorable updates we discover on the bZ however with their own strengths and niches.

Range is up thanks to a brand-new 74.7 kwh battery and power climbs too. There's still an entry design that carries over from last year but every other design will get either 221hp (if FWD) or 338hp (AWD). AWD is standard on the C-HR and bZ Woodland however the latter gets an even larger power bump approximately 375hp. Not just is the Woodland more powerful however it's also more utility focused with more ground clearance, freight volume, and the capability to tow as much as 3,500 pounds. If you desire kind over function the C-HR is ready to turn a few heads around town and is likely to be the quickest variation of the 3. It'll be a couple of months yet but later this year we need to be able to drive every available design and not long after you need to see them at your regional dealer.

    Upgrade? Really?😂🤣🤦🏻‍♂️ yeah no it isn’t…

    Once the bz moves to a RWD platform like every other ev, has a performance version, great range, fast charging to match the 800v architecture, a luxurious cabin with normal designs, great tech, great space, and practicality, then I’ll take it seriously.

    But we all know thats as likely to happen as Alex’s Durango SRT will last longer than a base corolla which I think you all know the likelihood of that 😂

      More range and more power is pretty objectively an upgrade. -Travis

      @@EVBuyersGuidebut vs the already better executed rivals…, that’s a whole different story…

      Rivals are already a lot further ahead. If thr actual improvements put them on par w rivals in all the categories, I’d say you’re right. But considering the supposed “improvements” are minor and not enough to compete with the best, I wouldn’t call it one

      @ALMX5DP

      @@naveenthemachineI’d call it one, and to me it doesn’t have to “compete with the best”, only meet the consumer expectation for this segment.

      @naveenthemachine

      @@ALMX5DPthen why else are other evs far more competitive? if what you’re saying is true then every other ev should have the same specs same performance and handling and charging as the bz.

      @@naveenthemachinewhat do you mean by more competitive in this context? Different vehicles will differ in terms of their approach to being attractive to customers..

      Probably a lot more than that in the real world 😂

      I’m hoping it matches up well with some of the leaders in the segment, this can’t come overpriced and do well. -Travis

      @@EVBuyersGuideoh it will. 😂 it’ll definitely be overpriced

      Toyotas the epitome of overcharging for mediocrity. Do I need to kindly remind you that their newest models have all gotten way too expensive?😂

    Much better than I’ve expected after watching many release videos on the bZ family, but unfortunately this still feels a half-generation to full generation behind what is out. Toyota could compete on price, but for now I think there are better options. However, if I were to test drive one, I would be starting with the bZ Woodland… love the resurgence of wagons in the EV space.

    Travis, how does that driver seat feel… it looked a little cramped and when I test drove the bZ4X, I felt like the driver seating area was a little too narrow in the leg space?

    1. @EVBuyersGuide Avatar
      @EVBuyersGuide

      I’d say snug but not exactly cramped. There’s a lot surrounding the driver though, it’s far from airy. -Travis

    The redesign, IMO, looks better than the new RAV4. For some reason, the RAV’s super chiseled look doesn’t work with the C-shaped lighting as well as in other Toyotas. The updated power, range, and style are great. Offering a hatch, wagon, and coupe body style with the same basic interior and similar specs is a smart move by Toyota. The NACS port on the front passenger fender will also make Supercharger access easy. Toyota should see a big sales increase with this redesign. I’d need more details before choosing one, but it’s a coin toss between the Woodland or C-HR. I love the wagon look and practicality, but the coupe is very sharp.

    Honestly, these are some solid upgrades overall. And, i find the wagon and C-HR+ pretty intriguing. But, both the BZ and the Woodland is in need of a larger battery pack to increase the range (like 86kWh, for instance.)

    1. @EVBuyersGuide Avatar
      @EVBuyersGuide

      ~260 miles is what I’ve got on my EV right now do I’d be fine with the battery pack as is. It should work for most people even if they’d be more comfortable with more. -Travis

    2023 BZ4X owner here. Love the car but it has its shortcomings. Glad Toyota has addressed these, namely range and battery preconditioning. Love the looks of the CHR, best looking of the 3.

    Great presentation! The bZ Woodland has most of my attention. However, I don’t know if I could get used to the displays and and other user interface.

    There is no way the new CH-R has only 25 cu ft of cargo space with the rear seats down. I think you meant with the seats up? For reference, the Volvo EC40 has double this cargo space with the seats down. Even the tiny Fiat 500e has approximately 30 cu ft of cargo space with the rear seats folded. Update: Just checked Toyota’s site. It’s 25.4 cu ft behind the second row (up from 19 cu ft in the prior CH-R).

    The CH-R is kind of giving me Polestar vibes from the front. I quite like how it looks.

    That Woodland is up my ally. It’s getting very close to satisfying my gravel road needs. Although I think I’ll still go with a Tucson PHEV to be safe. (a spare tire on the roof isn’t gonna help highway range).

    I swear Toyota’s Blue Nexus probably has the best electric motor in the industry in terms of power and efficiency. And yes I proclaim that theirs are even better than whatever the Chinese are cooking.

    bz4x has 74.7kwh battery and can get 314mi for 2WD and 288mi for AWD version. Kia EV6/Hyundai Ioniq 5 has 84kwh and get approximately the same range. This means the Toyota is lighter and probably more efficient as well. This spec is better than VW ID4 as well as all the GM Ultium

    Same with the bigger vehicle. Subaru Trailseeker/Toyota Highlander EV is equivalent of Kia EV9 standard range which has 76.1kwh and only comes with rear-wheel-drive. Yet the Trailseeker despite having smaller 75kwh battery, all-wheel-drive, more horsepower, faster acceleration still has longer range at 260mi (Kia EV9 has 230mi range)

    This is nice! Good coverage of the upgrades and specs! It’s a functional car. I hope it continues to improve because the Ioniq 5 still takes the cake for best all-round because of tech and design. It may be able to beat it on value if it under cutsit by $5k somehow.
