2026 Cadillac Optiq vs Optiq V | Caddy’s Entry Level EV Has A Split Personality

To V or not to V, that is the concern. Whether tis nobler in the EV to suffer lower horsepower in the hopes of a shinier look bundle. Or something like that. Anyhow, the Optiq gets tastier for 2026, and you don't require the V for that considering that all designs get some strong altered consisting of significantly more power in the base AWD model to assist separate it from the Chevy cousin.

Cadillac withdrew its dealership from my locality just as I was ready to buy an XT5. So, I guess, it’s “not to be” for them.

This is a wagon. I’m tired of pretending it’s not

Agreed. It’s more of a tall wagon than an SUV.
Some brands are calling it a CUV.

@LongIslandDadthey call them cuvs because of the EPA implications

Btw GM just had massive layoffs due to evs under performing, I’m tired of the press pretending evs are selling well. They simply don’t and caddy is toast if they don’t bring back their gas SUVs

What press are you reading that is saying they are selling well?

The only press I’ve seen recently was incorrectly stating that EV sales went down last year when in reality they were up a decent amount just not as much as automakers expected.

@LoganSchmidt814read the response below you. Most outlets continue to talk about evs as the end all be all of cars.

EVs are not going anywhere. They are still selling and selling well. I see more and more people buying EVs. 2 co workers just bought their first EVs. The outlook just took a hit due to the current Anti-EV, Anti-Green president and his administration. Once the market adjusts(6 months or so), EVs sales will increase once again.

I admit I kind of liked the coup SUV when it first saw it, since it was pretty fresh and neat. But nowadays every SUV has a coup styling and I’m not as into it anymore. Give me the cargo practicality instead.

This one feels a little less “coupe” and instead just isn’t as tall, boxy. -Travis

With the power boost on the Optiq awd it has all the hp I could want so it’s definitely the choice for me. I’d lease one, but I’m not sure I’d want to buy and then get stuck with the subscription for the apps after 3 years. I kind of wonder what that’s going to do to resale value.

    1. @EVBuyersGuide Avatar
      @EVBuyersGuide

I don’t think it will have much of a hit on resale. Whether or not people like subscriptions on vehicles, it’s a small enough monthly expense that I think it will creep up on folks more than be a major factor in their vehicle budgeting. -Travis

@EVBuyersGuide It will be interesting. GM has decided to give it away for everyone leasing the cars so the issue has been kicked down the road. I predict that there is going to be a bit of a backlash when people find out they have to pay a subscription for something they used to get for free. I’ve posted about this issue a lot and I find that most people, reviewers included, do not understand that the apps are just for 3 years. We’ll see.

2025 Optiq owner here. While I admit I am a bit jealous of some of the improvements made to the 2026 model, mainly the more powerful AWD powertrain, I am still pretty happy with the one I have. I do have a few complaints and wonder if they made any improvements to the 2026 to address them:

    1) The wipers performance are subpar in my opinion. The rake of the windshield it seems water likes to stick to it more and the way the wipers wipe it likes to pull the water back into the drivers view on the left side (the new Toyota Camry does the same thing).
    2) The rear window with no wiper holds onto water and dirt too easily. I had this same problem with my Ioniq 5. The spoiler design doesn’t do much to aide in blowing the water/dust off.
    3) The dash creates a lot of reflection/glare onto the windshield. I know the Equiniox EV had this same issue and they issued a TSB to put some sort of cover on the dash to minimize the glare, I have yet to hear them do the same for the Optiq.

My parents ended up buying the same car after driving ours and even they have complained about the same issues mentioned above. I hope Cadillac has managed to address these in the new model year.

I can’t speak to the first 2 in the short time we were driving it but I didn’t notice any alarming reflections from the driver seat. I was wearing polarized sunglasses the whole time so I can’t say “problem resolved” though. -Travis
