2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz First Look | America’s Retro EV Bus Is Finally Here!

's groovy ID. Buzz is practically here! Today they lastly pulled the covers off the re-imagined Bus for N. America. It's almost a foot longer than the 2-row Buzz in Europe, but still fairly compact as fat as American minivans or 3-row crossovers go. We don't know pricing or variety figures yet, but it's possible the RWD design could hit almost 300 miles thanks to the new and larger 91 kWh battery and a more efficient and more powerful rear motor helpful for 282 horsepower.

Volkswagen didn’t invite you to the press launch? That’s kinda rude 😮

So much for the affordable option…

I don’t think anything is affordable anymore LOL

@naveenthemachine If they trimmed out the sunroof and some of the other options, like the massaging seats, they could drop the price to be pretty competitive with an ICE minivan or smaller CUV (some upcharge for the EV aspect).

The issue with affordable is there isn’t much of a profit in something like the Bolt or Bolt EUV. Sub 30k cars could exist, but are far and few between.

“Optional AWD” – Oooh I’m listening

“Probably more expensive than the EV9” – Oh maybe not

When you finally get a chance to see this in person, please do a demo of someone laying flat in the back with the seats flat or removed…

It looks nice but when it comes time to replace my van, it is the cargo version of the Buzz that I will be looking at.

coefficient of drag has nothing to do with the size of a vehicle, only the shape.

The price is still the breaking point. More than an EV9, forget it. That is far outside the range for even mid tier car buyers.

The price for what you get is an issue as well, I was excited for this. But with seats that are going to be a PITA compared to every other van, those weird rear windows and a sunroof that doesn’t open I’d rather just gave a Pacifica. The size is the nicest part, but too many compromises otherwise.

Well, I guess we’re the lucky ones to see the un-edited version with the bonus 10 minutes of blackness and b-roll.

Me likey, I do wish for a less feature rich version in the future however.

I’ve seen a few outlets reporting it will charge at 200kW, going from 10%-80% in 25 minutes.

A.I. is so sophisticated nowadays! Somehow the camera’s autofocus knew that it was more important to get the FST BRIK license plate in focus when discussing the VW microbus than your face.

To my American eyes, this looks like it is more related to the T4 EuroVan (North American market) than the T2 Vanagons of yore. First, the exterior shape, width, and tall profile fit the character of those T4s more than the rear engined Vanagons. On the interior, the dual captains chairs each with their own set of adjustable armrests is lifted from the T4 EuroVan design. So too the cargo area split load floor and the premium interior touches. That’s not a bad thing. But anybody who is hoping that this will be remotely affordable can dream on. My guess: $65,000 starting price at least, for a RWD model. How will this compete with the Sienna and Pacifica PHEV? On niche appeal alone, maybe.

To think about ID buzz compares to Model X is just crazy.

Will there be a panel van version? (Probably not)

    No frunk = fail 😂

I would prefer the short wheelbase version. That would be an ideal size.

Love it! Except the transition from the windshield to the cowl. My Dad had a yellow and white Vanagon, so it tugs at my heart strings.
