Does China make a better Range Rover than Variety Rover?

Mat's got his hands on a Jaecoo 7 and a Variety Rover Evoque, and he will go head-to-head with them both to see which is best! He'll be comparing the design, interior, performance, and a whole host of other categories to see whether this Chinese SUV is really a better choice than the World-renowned Variety Rover! So let's enter it …

Beginning with the design, the Evoque we have here was launched in 2018. It's had a midlife facelift ever since, however that's brought just a couple of tweaks and modifications. In advance, it has a small grille, however the overall design still looks wise. Along the side, it includes black pillars to give the roofing a slight floating effect, and this automobile was among the very first to present pop-out door handles. Around the back, there's a roof spoiler, as well as large Variety Rover badging.

As for the Jaecoo, the front end is significantly different from the Evoque, with a substantial grille flanked either side by headlights with a type of upside-down impact. Along the side, the similarities to the Evoque are incredibly noticeable! It also features pop-out door handles, and for cars and trucks in White, it also has black pillars. Around the back, there's likewise a large Jaecoo badge – much like the Evoque!

On the within, the similarities are as soon as again visible. The Range Rover includes a tidy centre console controlled by a big equipment lever, and there are minimal physical buttons, with a lot of performance managed through the infotainment screen. The seats are made from leather and are comfortable, while the majority of the cabin is covered in soft-touch products.

The Jaecoo has a similar & tidy centre console, although the drive selector is now a stalk on the steering wheel. There's likewise a large infotainment screen controling the dash, and soft-touch products greater up in the cabin. Reach a bit lower, however, and scratchy plastics are easy to find! The seats are made from faux leather, however they feel simply as nice as those in the Variety Rover.

When it comes to the rate, the Jaecoo begins with simply ₤ 30,115, while the Variety Rover starts from ₤ 44,380. The cars we have here, however, have a number of options included. So while the Jaecoo costs around ₤ 35,000, the Range Rover comes in at over ₤ 52,000!

So is the Evoque actually worth almost ₤ 20,000 more than the Jaecoo? Or is his all-new Chinese entrant the one to choose? You'll require to stick to Mat to see on your own!

      @aviaspotter32

      @conor7154it’s not blatant (see: Land Wind), also Chinese car companies hire former European auto designers so that might be a factor

      @aviaspotter32 Lol, yeah, they hired some random middle manager. That’s why the car looks like a literal knockoff with a nonsense name that doesn’t even mean anything in Chinese… Because of one guy, and nothing else…

      @conor7154former lead designers at Volkswagen AG like Wolfgang Egger isnt some middle manager, and I’m not even glazing just stating the facts. The names are indeed, very silly though, especially Geely and Chery ones

      @DamarFadlan25landwing lost in Beijing court battle when land rover took them to court. The court ruled in land rovers favour on 7 design points being copied. They order the landwing to stop production and band them from being sold. A Chinese firm is trying to now shift thousands that were left unsold for $4,000. The better 4×4 from china is GWA, tank 300 or 500. The 500 is more like a Toyota landcrusser.

      @markhudson5268it was land wind. Not land wing. Both land wind and land rover lost both cases in court. Essentially both won against each other. So neither could use the Evoque design.

    How can Jaecoo lease a £35,000 car over 3 years for £15,000? It will lose far more than that in depreciation. They must be subsidising them to flood the market.

    1. @AlternativPerspectiv Avatar
      @AlternativPerspectiv

      If they are, they are subsidizing them to make them cheaper for you. You can pay double if you like. i’m sure they’ll take the money, no question asked.

    2. @conor7154 Avatar
      @conor7154

      The Chinese government has been HEAVILY subsidizing the entire industry for the past 5 years. 5 years ago none of these things were sold outside of China, and now half the car reviews on YouTube are of these things. They’re not making a profit, the goal (which won’t work) is to harm other manufacturers enough that eventually the Chinese brands will be the majority of sales and eventually stop losing money. Of course the Chinese are incredibly dumb and don’t understand that cars with completely random and weird names, to say nothing of the issues with the cars themselves, won’t sell in English speaking countries. No one is going to drive around a “jaecoo” in a country that doesn’t have a social credit system lmao

      @deansmits006

      @peter8333I would say that there’s nothing to substantiate that. But it’s now generally common knowledge that products are generally made with planned obsolescence in mind.
      I think that they want to equip the car to make it either stand out or keep up with the jones, and reliability is ignored. They may not plan for obsolescence, but make no effort to keep the part serviceable and reliable

    I love it. I switched from my Cayenne Coupe and I’m happy with the change, it’s soft, drives excellent, is fast and excellent off road capability. It costs £21.000 here.
    For me it’s a no brainer.
