My friend sleeped all the way with just holding the streeting wheel😂
-
He grabbed the wheel too early. If he had left it a little longer, it would have called e-call

Many years ago I witnessed a car suddenly swerve off the road. Later I learned that the driver had a heart attack, from memory I don’t think anyone else was hurt but it was a frightening experience. This technology will genuinely save lives.
_unlike the compulsory over speed warnings that are just irritating_-
This tech really is great.
Speeding is proven to be the reason of a big part of accidents and to increase the consequences and mortality of a lot of them.

The horn changed sounds lol

most people pass out due to micro sleep and you usually keep holding the steering wheel in that case

I have a stripped down version of this system in my Skoda (so also Volkswagen Group). While it won’t just stop for me (or I at least I don’t think it will – I never tested it), it will take over steering and will sound audio alerts as long as I’m doing 60+km/h or was doing it within the last couple of seconds – even if I’m holding the steering wheel. The only situations when it won’t engage is when you’re using an indicator, make a very sudden steering wheel movement or try to fight the assist. So I don’t believe the system will fail just because your hands are still on the steering wheel.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that the full version of this system – like in this VW – will also call the emergency number and forward your GPS location to the emergency services (at least in the EU).

@anbi7418nice, tho i can remeber the last time i was catching microsleeps it was because i was going very boringly slow down a mountain pass stuck in a dynamic traffic on a rainy night drive home and most of the drive down we were going around 50kmh so i guess the sub 60 rule is pretty much just for highways cause if you go normal speeds on b roads you’re engaged enough to not fall asleep and you’re going at most 60 in a city

Can’t even have a quick nap at the wheel these days
-
damn it the invisible sniper got em
-
We need this in America ASAP 🇺🇸
-
There is a stripped down feature of this in GM vehicles already that includes calling OnStar if you need emergency help. In 2027+ expect the full feature that includes slowing the vehicle down.

This is the right use of this technology. Well done V-Dub.
-
Made possible thanks to the technology of a tiny Australian company called “Seeing Machines”.
-
This is great and will be very helpful for people who may have medical complications

Any feature where the computer can take over can be abused by authority.

Hope to see this feature in more cars!
