Range Rover Sport review: The BEST Range Rover?

This is the brand new plug-in hybrid Variety Rover Sport, and Mat's about to learn whether you ought to pick it over the petrol-powered edition!

For beginners, it looks quite striking and is immediately recognisable as a Sport. When it concerns create distinctions compared to the basic Variety Rover Sport … Well, there aren't any! Apart from the charging port towards the rear of the and truck, the plug-in hybrid and fuel are identical.

It's a comparable story on the inside, too! It includes a big infotainment screen, good quality materials throughout most of the cabin, and huge, comfy seats. The only distinction compared to the petrol-powered cars and truck is some extra screens on the infotainment system, in addition to new options on the digital dials to allow you to drive in electric-power mode.

Under the bonnet, you'll find a 3-litre turbocharged straight-six engine in addition to an electrical motor. The range-topping edition can produce 510hp, which sends power to all 4 wheels.

As for the price, well it's pretty costly, being available in at just under ₤ 114,000! But then again, that's just ₤ 4,000 more than the petrol-powered ! So with that in mind, should you just choose the plug-in hybrid rather? Stick to Mat and see for yourself!

Yellow or orange to match the colour of the truck that will inevitably be towing it everywhere.

PHEVS only exist because of legislation, it only makes sense if you keep charging the battery otherwise it is just dead weight and deteriorates massively your MPG hence buying a petrol only version is not that a bad idea for many people

Untrue. Even if you never plug it in at all you still get a substantial benefit from energy recovery under braking, and the ability to do slow stop-start rush hour condition without burning a lot of fuel at the most wasteful crawling speed for internal combustion. Just like a normal non plug-in hybrid

Phevs exist because until relatively recently it was mega expensive to pack enough batteries into a car to get an acceptable range and it was reasonably easy to convert an existing model to phev without rebuilding your cars from the ground up to support full ev. These days though they only really still get made to satisfy eu emissions regulations and get company car tax reductions for ice cars still on sale.

2.7 tons to 60mph in 5seconds isn’t bad. Super sport cars use to do that and Range Rovers waft around the corners and fly down the straights

@P BartYeah but you’re far more unlikely to see an EV6 at the side of the road with hazards flashing unlike a Range Rover.

@Sh!tehawk A bit slower but probably 4x the range so overall faster.

Mat, people that buy P400 are people who actually know range rovers and know that stuff will break. The less the better.

    1. Ben Garlick Avatar
      Ben Garlick

Tbf P400 will be the most reliable but I think the P510e will be more reliable than the P530 which has the 4.4 BMW V8.

  10. Hugh Denniston Avatar

The price difference is far more extreme in Ireland. The P400 starts at 213,000 euro, whilst the P440e starts at 138,000. This also applies to cars like the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne.

Finland is the same, even if there’s little to no tax based on co2 on plug in hybrids there’s always the lovely 24% VAT even on fully electric cars

@Sushionroad Agreed, it ends up being the better off that benefit, whilst a lot of people still pay high tax rates for less polluting cars.

If the luggage space is the same with or without the batteries then where are batteries? What is the space being used for on the non-EV version?
