      Well why have a slow gearbox when you can flick a paddle for instant gear change thats why f1 cars are not manual anymore auto gearbox is much quicker

      BMW sandbagging is real. They underrate engine power to make real world time tests look more impressive. It’s not so impressive when you realise the engines are making 50HP more than advertised.

      @ThumbMerrilinThese Supras are being repeatedly tested at between 350 and 360bhp on rolling roads. It’s straight line performance is down to the efficiency of it’s gearbox.

    I don’t give a damn about what you say about down shifting during the brake test. That downshift while and throttle blips was bloody flawless from Sam. What a racer! 🏁

    5. @Sammaherloughnan Avatar
      @Sammaherloughnan

      @95VR407FA5ok one final time… I’ll try and make it clear. Yes on corner entry downshifts help with braking but not in the way you think..

      Say I’m going 160mph and I brake for a corner that has a 90mph minimum apex speed, then down shifting does a few things.

      1) it puts me in the correct gear for the corner ext.

      2) it allows me options in my brake bleed depending on the corner shape and rotation needed.

      3. The lower gear allows me to come off the brake a little earlier helping the roll phase of the corner entry by using the drag of the speed differential in road and wheels.

      And finally 4. Down shifting, rev matching stops what i call axle tramping and little lock ups in either the front or rear.

      There are many other reasons but the main point is , in terms of retardation of the car I am braking at maximum bar pressure, on average in a sports road car that will be about 100 bar.

      Now the massive discs and callipers nowadays are doing all of the work. In the older days with cross ply tyres and tiny brakes with one piston calipers it did make a difference but now it doesn’t.

      What it does is makes a cool sound 👍👍

    Did they Not research the competition?

      Yeah I have a 370Z and the new Z is faster. OEM Potenzas are trash though, not that they would make a difference in this video. Guess it just comes that (at least where I live) the Supra is like 30% more expensive.

  20. @rustler08 Avatar

    We all made BMW jokes about the Supra, but the reality is that the B58 engine is an absolute beast. Makes very decent power stock, and you can crank it up to 11 and it’ll still hold without a care. You want to make 700whp on a stock engine with a turbo swap and downpipe? Not a problem, princess.
    No other engine in this lineup will do that.
