New Porsche 911 v Shelby GT 350: DRAG RACE

Modification your vehicle with Carwow:

The brand-new entry-level is here, and it's about to go head-to-head with an almighty American muscle and truck!

The concern is, does the brand-new Carrera have what it takes to lower the tuned 350? Let's take a more detailed take a look at the statistics.

Beginning with the , it's powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six that produces 394hp and 450Nm of torque. This power is sent out to the rear wheels only through an 8-speed dual-clutch automated transmission, and the car suggestions the scales at 1,520 kg. As new, this 911 will set you back around ₤ 100,000.

Then we pertain to the Shelby. Under the bonnet, you'll find a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8, which normally produces 526hp and 582Nm. Nevertheless, in this instance, it's been tuned, and it now puts down 600hp and 597Nm! Power is sent out to the rear wheels via a 6-speed handbook, and it weighs in at 1,680 kg. As new in 2019, this and truck would set you back around ₤ 50,000.

So the Shelby is well up on power, but it's packing a manual transmission! Will that show decisive? There's only one method to learn for sure … LET'S RACE!

Mat's lease deal:

Dodge Opposition Satanic force v 911 Turbo:

    4. @ross-carlson Avatar
      @ross-carlson

      I think you mean BRAKE tests, as I didn’t see him damage anything. Regardless it DOES NOT MAATTER – brakes are NOT what stops a car, TIRES are. Brakes turn kinetic energy into heat, the only thing touching the road are the TIRES, THEY are what stops a car. So downshifting, pressing the pedal harder, etc. – so long as you have traction (so ABS obviously helps that) you are getting as much braking as you can. If you overload the tires and they lose traction then you lose traction, brakes/shifting have NOTHING to do with it.

      I wish more people understood this. For brakes “better” means you can brake over and over and over and over and they not heat up, that’s why ceramics are better (and they are lighter but that doesn’t really affect braking but rather handling)

    5. @ross-carlson Avatar
      @ross-carlson

      @@flappelapperr Of course not, TIRES are what stops a car, NOT brakes. Brakes convert kinetic energy to heat where TIRES are what stops the car.

      Which doesn’t do ANYTHING – brakes/shifting is NOT what stops a car, there is only one thing that does – TIRES. ABS obviously helps the TIRES keep from locking up so that helps but it helps the TIRES stop the car. He’s 100% right that shifting makes zero difference and he likely does it out of habit as heel-toe is how you drive a manual. American here. That was a beautiful drive by Sam in that last race. That Mustang is a handful and the first 2 runs are understandable, but he nailed the 3rd run and that Porsche STILL walked it! Liked Sam said, all that noise and effort and the Porsche just exits the frame calm, cool and collected. I appreciate the hell out of that “entry level” 911 for just hooking up and going!

    1. @Screaming-Trees Avatar
      @Screaming-Trees

      Yeah it’s pretty clear which design approach yields a more tangible result. I bought a manual M3 in December and I have to say even that struggles sometimes to put the power to the ground. I think BMW should have done what they did for the automatic and just couple it with 4wd. That said, I do love the way the car handles once it’s at speed but the xdrive version isn’t any worse. 600hp with a RWD setup is clearly not the winning configuration. If I were Ford I’d put 4wd in that thing. Only way to use all that power.

  18. @StevenC-CSW Avatar
    @StevenC-CSW

    To make a race fair Sam. If one car is a manual the other should be as well. Paddle shifting is completely different from stick shifting. Over all the Mustang did well in the drags considering it isn’t a good starter. It kicks in with its top end speed, but by that time the automatics are too far ahead to catch in 1/2 or 1/4 miles. Great racing!
