New Lexus RZ review: It’s finally here!

Fulfill the !

Despite Lexus being among the leading brand names in hybrid vehicle innovation, the RZ is the first purpose-built electrical cars and truck Lexus has actually launched! So with that in mind, is it any excellent?

Well let's begin with a take a look at the style, and it's reasonable to say the RZ more than looks the part! Beginning at the back, you'll discover a full-length light bar, some cool little spoilers and huge Lexus badging. There may be some fake vents too, but we can forgive them for now. The RZ has a silver lining profile, with wise creases along the doors, while in advance the RZ still keeps the conventional Lexus style, although in this instance there's no grille.

However while the outside style looks good, the interior looks even much better! The cabin is developed with soft-touch materials throughout, and there's a huge infotainment screen at the centre of the dash that is actually instinctive and well-designed. Luckily it also has separate climate control buttons, so they are easy to manage when driving. The seats are also well-made and offered in either fake suede or leather.

When it comes to motors and battery combinations, there's just one readily available – 2 electric motors and a 71kWh battery pack that integrate to produce 313hp. It likewise features a claimed series of 272 miles.

So everything noises pretty impressive! But is it really worth the ₤ 64,500 starting price?! Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

10:30 Apart from the Lexus RZ & Toyota BZ4X, can you name a car that doesn’t have a glove box?

My car doesn’t have a glove box too, probably because I don’t have a car.

This Lexus RZ apparently outweighed the Mercedes Benz 300SL.

@Purwanti Allan It’s understandable because it’s electric, the battery is heavy

I’ve already seen a few of them out on the roads in japan, and yea i do agree that it looks pretty nice
other than the black plastic thing under the headlights makes the face look too small and the pointy spoiler thing on the trunk…

The Lexus RZ imo is as expensive as even the Mazda RX7 TYPE RZ.

Lexus RZ not gonna match the Dodge Durango in terms of performance and reliabilities.

@Purwanti Allan According to goodle, both car only differs in milisecon in terms of performarnce, plus Lexus is basically is Toyota so the reliabilities could be higher than Dodge

Steer by wire should terrify everyone. Anyone remember journalist Michael Hastings? He was about to publish a huge story on General Stanley McCrsytal when he phoned a friend and said he thought his Mercedes had been tampered with but he couldn’t say more as he knew the FBI monitored all their calls. A bit later his Mercedes accelerated to over 100mph on a residential street and then veered straight into a tree, enough force to separate and launch the engine 75 feet out of the car. Numerous articles were written about that being the first hacked and “remotely controlled car”. Google has tried to scrub those story of all this off the net but you can still find them.

@Aussie2u Planes fly by wire. So it’s doable, and a lot safer in many ways. It just needs to be done right. Although I completely agree that there WILL be cars that get hacked, I’m sure. Where there’s software, there are weak spots.

    Hi Mat,
I love Lexus and did look forward to the RZ, but the BZ4X platform from Toyota doesn’t give us the range that an EV should to avoid range anxiety for us not-so-young (50+) users. The car looks fantastic, both the exterior and the interior, and I sincerely hope that Toyota will get the range right next time so I can get the Lexus EV that I am dreaming about.

    1. drxym Avatar
      drxym

There has also been a lot of press recently about BZ4X platform having a range substantially less than advertised and the battery management system being a disaster for long journeys because it limited rapid charging. i.e. Toyota were more concerned about their battery warranty than delivering a useful car.

I still think EVs are not yet ready for limelight, but if there’s any EV that would change my mind, it would be this Lexus. It’s a compelling package.

Spot on summary. The range is the only drawback otherwise it ticks all the right boxes and is a distinctive looking vehicle that doesn’t shy away from being noticed for all the right reasons.

Have to say I’ve never used a glovebox in my life. Just something to hold clutter in but I don’t use door bins either, they only get filled with rubbish. Nice looking car 👍🏼
