I just don’t understand how it can weigh 2.5t. Surely BMW could have saved some weight somewhere. I’m not saying it’s not quick, but it’s computer controlled quick. Imagine if it was fully analogue and weighed that much.

They coul’ve saved some weight, and there’s probably a CS version releasing soon with a lot of weight cut, but do people who never track their M5 really prefer a lighter car if it means worse material or less sound insulation?

@@joseluislopes3956 It can’t just be down to sound insulation and material quality when it weighs not that far off a Phantom. It is a 5 series at the end of the day, they’re pretty mid. It’s just unreasonably heavy in my opinion. The problem is, the heavier the fast car, the less ‘fast’ it actually feels. Take the Range Rover Sport SVR. Something gets lost when a car is a boat. I mean, it doesn’t feel like a 787 is as fast as it really is, does it?

Nice! Lightweight for the win! My Miata is about that, maybe a hair less. Such fun to have a car that handles like a go kart! Easy on consumables like tires and brakes, and when using momentum is as quick as many much higher HP vehicles.

You are wrong Mat. EU standards say 90% of fuel + driver 75kg.
That means 2494kg.-
Nope, that is the weight without the driver. The declared weight with driver is 2510 kg (Just checked on BMW site). So the weighted car is a bit less heavy than claimed.

My BMW i4 M50 weighs 2250kg but that’s somewhat understandable since it’s electric. Still drives like a dream though.

5368lbs!? While I may never be able to afford an M5, having driven an E39 540i/6, which was an absolutely wonderful car, to my current F02 740iL, which is terrible, BMW is no longer the Ultimate Driving Machine, and hasn’t been for decades.

I pulled the owners manual from my e39 M5. It lists the weight with driver and full tank at 1825 kg. If weight of driver not considered and full tank weight is adjusted down; then around 1700 kg. So this model is more than 700 kg heavier. Granted it has much more power than my little 400 hp M5, 700 kg is a big difference.
Truth be told everything is bigger today. I parked next to a 3 series and looks larger than my 5 series.

Weighs the same as a dodge durango hellcat which has the same amount of power. The design isnt that bad, interior looks great, and it still has that v8.

I’m here wondering if the M5 is this heavy and the Touring version is 50kg heavier, i couldn’t Imagine how heavy the incoming X5M/X6M gonna be.
They somehow gonna make what supposed to be lightweight performance SUVs even more unnecessarily heavy.
