Mercedes v Toyota v Land Rover: For £2000?!

We're examining second-hand SUVs that deserve approximately ₤ 2,000 – a Toyota Land Cruiser, a Mercedes ML & a Land Rover Discovery, and we're going to put them through a series of tests to see which is the best value-for-money.

If you remain in the market for a large yet cheap second-hand SUV, which is the better choice – a Toyota Land Cruiser, a Mercedes ML, or a Land Rover Discovery 3?

Well, with a budget plan of just ₤ 2,000, we have actually got our hands on among each to see which is the best. Mat and the team are going to go head-to-head in a drag race, compare their outsides and interiors, and see what they're like to drive on the road.

But which will triumph? Let's take a more detailed look …

Beginning with the Discovery 3, it's powered by a 2.7-litre V6 that produces 190hp and 440Nm. It's equipped with a 6-speed manual and weighs 2,419 kg. It was first released in 2005, we purchased it for ₤ 1,500, and it currently has 256,000 miles on the clock.

Up next is the Mercedes ML. There's a 2.7-litre inline-5 turbo diesel under the bonnet, and this produces 163hp and 400Nm. It's geared up with a 5-speed automated gearbox, weighs around 2,100 kg, and was released in 2005. We bought it for ₤ 1,800, and it has 140,000 miles on the clock.

Finally, we pertain to the Land Cruiser. It's powered by a 4.7-litre V8, and this puts down 235hp and 434Nm. It rolls up with a 4-speed automated transmission, and it weighs 2,260 kg. It was originally released in 2002, and although it was initially purchased for ₤ 5,000, it's just worth around ₤ 2,000 now. To date, it's run around 282,000 miles.

So which of these is the very best purchase? Stick to Mat to see for yourself!

The thing is that even if the Land Rover and Mercedes are cheap, their maintenance are still “luxury” level maintenance. So yeah Toyota .

@lemcake32422yeah they break down every 10mins mate so quit actilng like old range rovers are cheap. They are commonly known as the biggest money pit there is. I’ll stick with my Dmax thanks

@DongMcDing Lol I regularly drive a new MU-X and it’s a heap of 💩 compared to my 15 year old Land Rover. Servicing on the Isuzu might be cheaper for the average normie who knows nothing about cars, but I service my cars myself and it’s very cheap to own, very reliable too. Never had a single issue, just routine servicing.
