Mercedes CLE review: Is it really worth £75,000?

The Black Friday sale is now live:

This is the new !

It's a replacement for both the C-Class Coupe & E-Class Coupe, however is it the best of both worlds? Mat's ready to have a look and find out.

In terms of the style, it looks quite smart from the outside! The grille comes loaded with mini stars, all surrounding a big badge that sits front and centre. It's flanked on either side by genuine vents, and all-in-all the vehicles looks pretty stylish from the front. Along the side the clever appearances continue, with creases running along the entire side paired with black environments around the windows. At the back, it looks nice, but there's one crucial concern – phony exhausts! When will find out?!

Step inside and the is a mainly good place to be. There's a substantial infotainment screen in the centre of the dash, and the digital dial screen comes with several various display screens. The cabin overall looks quite good, but look a bit closer and there are a number of locations covered in cheap plastics!

There are a couple of engines available, consisting of a 2-litre turbo diesel! This produces 197hp, while the 2 2-litre turbo petrols produce 204hp and 258hp respectively. There's a plug-in hybrid offered too, which produces 313hp. There's likewise a 3-litre straight-six – this produces 381hp in the 450 we're evaluating here, while in the range-topping AMG it makes 449hp.

The CLE range starts at ₤ 46,000, however it climbs up a fair bit if you're looking up the range. The 450 we have here expenses around ₤ 73,000, and it's not even the range-topping AMG!

So is it worth it? Stick with Mat to discover!

Its not a Mercedes Coupe if it has a B-pillar. End of story.
The Cabriolet doesnt have a B-pillar. Why not the Coupe too, to make it a real MB Coupe? I dont get it. Would have given it a real thought as a replacement for my aging C207. But not with the pillar, not for the plastics, not for the touchie touchie everywhere.

It’s all since the late 90s, when shareholders had less power (and decisionmaking) within the brand, focusing less and less over the years (until nowadays), until we reached a point where you see a 75k car that is just not worth it. Quality control use to be the pinnacle of automotive industry in the 90s, and sadly those days are gone, changing interior high quality noble materials (wood and aluminium in physical buttons to just name a couple) for plastic and tablet shaped screens, and fake exhausts. Same goes once you get under the car, older mercedes used to be overengineered and built to last. And is not only Mercedes. BMW and Audi are doing the exact same thing, also overusing the horrible piano black (aka cheap plastic) in their interiors as well.
