Mazda CX-60 review: Better than the Germans?!

This is the !

It's the latest to come from the Japanese manufacturer and presently sits as the biggest vehicle Mazda uses in the UK.

Starting with the style, this stands out – with sharp LED headlights, alloy wheels as much as 20-inches in size and a tidy rear end. Prepare to experience a little fakery on the bodywork, though …

The CX-60's quality shines through inside too. You can have it with elegant white leather on top-spec models, and some outstanding innovation on-board.

There's the concern of functionality however, along with what's it like to drive. Plus should you choose a hybrid, or among the rare huge diesels? Stick with Mat to find the responses to these, and to see if the deserves the price!

Good to see Mazda letting you review their cars again after comparing the Mazda3 to a dog doing its business.

There is another auto guy in US who inexplicably went after the Mazda3 turbo. It was jarring Who knows, maybe it pay to play

Given the plates are blurred/blocked, I’d say this is not Mazda letting him review it but a dealership or something lmao

    Finally a Mazda.
I don’t know why they don’t give enough space to Japanese brands such as Mazda.

Because Mazda didn’t like his Mazda 3 review is why there was no Mazda for so long on this channel haha.

Because Mat only gives good reviews to the german cars(especially VAG group who is their main sponsor)

@Purwanti Allan how so? it’s cheaper than the Germans and the Lexus and almost as good. The price for it is very good I’d say. Mazda is more and more becoming a competitor to those brands.

Mercedes GLB starts at £38,500 so 7 grand more than a Merc same size

    4. Jakub Senko Avatar
      Jakub Senko

@Rik Ausyou need to consider that GLB is absolute sh*t of a car. Very unreliable, terrible interior quality etc. Size wise this is GLC and X3 territory, not GLB.

    5. janck1000 Avatar
      janck1000

@Rik Aus except GLB is a bit smaller, is on a same FWD platform as an A class, and has cheaper interior. Of course the Mazda will be more expensive

Matt comparing the noise levels and suspension to luxury cars speaks levels about how upmarket Mazda has moved with their new CX-60. I think these will sell very well for those looking for a more luxurious CX-5, similar to the Lexus NX and Rav4

I wouldn’t compare this to anything German I compare this to a Honda or Toyota and that’s it. And don’t even get me started on Hyundai and Kia their leaves above this and they’re having fun with their car

    4. JDM guy Avatar
      JDM guy

@Brandon PollardGerman cars are completely overrated. They live on badge image and a historic image of quality/reliability. This is easily comparable with the boring X3 and the like.

This is an amazing recipe. Great looks, supposedly super solid drivetrain and a great cabin. A shame that things like the door sound, the comfort or that steering heater just seem a bit half assed..

The middle screen is touch screen for CarPlay or Android Auto. Just not for Mazda menus.

Have had my CX-60 since last September. On the whole I’m pleased with it and Sport mode is something that needs to be tried to be believed

Mat, I tried to spec’ up a Q5 like my full bells-and-whistles Takumi PHEV, but blew past the 90KEUR mark with plenty of boxes left to check- price/kit/performance-wise I couldn’t be happier or found better ( no regrets, but I do miss my little red Sandero III, fully specced and bi-fuel, but I got an excellent trade-in!).

@JDM guy the hybrid system is old Toyota tech in the Mazda and the general build quality is not the same as the NX. From the rude quality to the insulation etc

The tinny doors have been rectified on the 2023 models, and 2022 models can get the added door suppression free of charge, they sound like they should after the work….all in all the car and for the money will outdo most German equivalent, and not forgetting..it is a Mazda, and will never let you down, unlike some German offerings….great review….

    1. ukgroucho Avatar
      ukgroucho

“never let you down” Only mine did. It had this horrible thrumming sound between 25 and 45 MPH – sounded like a window left open a bit and the resonance that you get. But it seemed to be from the transmission. They tried to fix it (prop shaft replacement) but failed, then no-one seemed to know what to do. Not just my car – they had some others with the same issue and people on forums were reporting the issue – some dating back to December 2022 and still no fix. Only on the PHEV. I ended up returning it. Shame as it was a really nice car but I lost confidence in the technology and the support processes.

I test drive the PHEV CX60 a few weeks ago and it was impressive. Really quick too and good driving position. But I really struggle to see who the market is for it when you can buy a full EV for about the same price.

    1. Jakub Senko Avatar
      Jakub Senko

Anyone who doesn’t want full EV. Love battery power for driving aroud the city, absolutely hate it for longer drives. I drive mere than 600km in one go pretty often and it was really bad experience in EV. PHEVs are way better for this. Not exactly this one, as I do not like SUVs, but PHEVs has its benefits.

Worked for Avis 2 years, got to see very nicely specced PHEV versions of the CX60. Great car (awesome cold start up sound I’m still impressed), got cool GLE-GLS vibes cuz it’s quite big and imposing, pulls for the weight, nice interior. I loved it!

Got the diesel for 2 weeks, overall a great family car, we enjoyed it. Had some strange errors with low battery warnings which seems to be common for newer Mazdas and one time the gear box didn’t shift when we drove onto the motorway which was quite scary. Had to restart the car and everything was fine afterwards. Looks like there might be some issues with the electronics at least with our model. Overall, very bulky but nice car, would love to drive it again.

Just watched the review and I’m completely blown away by the sophistication and elegance Mazda has instilled in the new CX-60 🤩! From the refined cabin to the sleek exterior, it seems to tick all the boxes. It’s refreshing to see Mazda stepping up their game and giving the luxury brands a run for their money. What do you all think, can it truly rival the Germans, especially with its compelling price point? Also, who else is intrigued by the 6 cylinders? 🔥
