We have actually got our hands on the all-new Kia EV5, and while it's an actually good vehicle, there's one thing we require to examine.

Although it's larger, it is very comparable to the less expensive Kia EV3. So does the brand-new EV5 deal enough to make it the much better choice, or should you save some cash and select the EV3 instead? Let's take a better look …

In regards to the style, the EV5 looks fantastic from whatever angle you look at it. Up top there are stylish & angular headlights, providing the automobile a somewhat aggressive appearance from the front. There are aspects of black trim across the vehicle to offer it a more rugged appearance, and around the back there are more stylish headlights. The side angle highlights the blocky style (comparable to the EV9), and overall it looks terrific. Fortunately, also, is that whether you pick the entry-level or the top-of-the-range edition (as we have for this evaluation), all editions look extremely comparable.

On the within, it's a bit of a variety. There are soft-touch materials across the top of the dash, and there's a good quantity of storage throughout, however the infotainment and digital dial screens that control the dash aren't the very best. They're a bit dark, and the infotainment system isn't the best, however Apple CarPlay & Android Car is readily available if needed. There's one big plus point though – physical climate control buttons !!

All editions of the Kia EV5 featured the same single electrical motor, driving the front wheels, that can deliver 217hp. They all also come geared up with an 81kWh battery, which in this GT-Line S trim, benefits a declared variety of 313 miles. The entry-level Air has actually a claimed variety of 329 miles.

The Kia EV5 starts from ₤ 39,345, rising up to ₤ 47,145 for the range-topping GT-Line S. Nevertheless, at the time of composing there's an average conserving of ₤ 4,000 for one of these on Carwow.

The question is, with the EV3 range starting from ₤ 33,000, which one should you choose? Stick to Mat to see for yourself!

for unknown reason if you buy reports you risk to lose them if not used after some time, very sneaky, i asked them to just continue because i paid and them making the available raports dissapear is like me paying for nothing.. not really legal by my view and i got hit with: you have agreed to the term&cond. I am sure no one really reads those but hope this comment will help somebody to know that there is a time limit on the reports (available and used – yes, on used you get hit with: we will delete because the info may not be correct, like the car could be completely different -> just put a: this is an old report and new information was aquired so you may need to update it)

What I absolutely love about Kias designs is they look extremely futuristic but also quite retro at the same time. I don’t know how to describe it but I love it

put the driver awareness alarm thing on a short cut button, much easier. Set the tailgate to open on approach in the settings to keep your finger clean if it bugs you that much. The climate conrols obscured by the steering wheel become part of the main screen if you select the + button in the climate screen, so much easier to see.

I came here to say about the shortcut and the climate. It’s really no issue once you get the set up right.

Matt is getting every time more far away from giving good advise. You won’t pick an EV5 over an EV3 just because is prettier, you go because the space. Not everything is black (EV3) or white (EV9), sometimes you need the middle. Anyway, it’s not a flashy car, but a great average family car, which is what many families need.

Had my EV5 GT Line S (UK) for a few months now. Love it. Cheap, lots of space. Great vehicle. I also average between 3.5 and 4 m/kw. Its not the most economical but good enough in my opinion

Getting up to 4m/kWh is good.

I have a Model 3 RWD and it’s averaged 4.54m/kWh over 24k miles. It only weighs 1,760kg and is a much more aerodynamic shape, so I’d say your efficiency is very decent.

Shortlisted a EV5 as my company car and it looks better in the flesh. Shame its only 2wd (bizare when it looks like a real SUV), range is quite poor and the interior plastics are very cheap looking. Combined with no heat pump even as an option other than on the GTline plus and lots of review saying they are ‘ok’ and ‘fine’ put me off

This car, the Kia EV5, didn’t sell well in Uzbekistan because its battery drains fast in the cold; in short, it just didn’t suit our climate. The car that took its place is the BYD Seal U (Song Plus) EV and Hybrid, which is still trending in Uzbekistan because it’s high-quality, durable, and reliable. This is true even though the Kia EV5 actually came in cheaper than the BYD.

We all know never to trust an EVs range that is being reviewed and is part of the brands journalist stock, they are always thrashed by journalists trying to see what they can do and it knocks the range like mad.

The summary sounds logical, but I actually drove the EV3 and the EV5 on the same day recently, and the difference in handling is huge. I was very negatively surprised by the EV3 and very positively surprised by the EV5, which, as Mat also noticed, holds the road quite well for a car of this type.
