Is this Chinese ‘Range Rover’ better than the real thing?

Modification your vehicle with Carwow:

Presenting the Jaecoo 7!

It's a mid-size SUV that originated from China, and at the time of writing it is the most configured cars and truck on Carwow! With that in mind, Mat's got his hands on one to see what all the fuss has to do with.

The essential thing to mention is the cost. Whereas rival automobiles have actually seen their rates escalate in the last few years, the Jaecoo can be found in at a particular ₤ 30,000, increasing to ₤ 35,000 for the plug-in hybrid. So when you pair that with a Carwow saving of around ₤ 2,500, the Jaecoo quickly damages its crucial rivals!

In terms of the style, it certainly holds a vibrant presence on the roadway, and if anything, is reminding us of a Variety Rover! In advance, there's a big, enforcing grille which is flanked by headlights that feature graphics built in! Along the side, you'll discover pop-out door deals with, and at the back, the car looks wise, with the windshield wiper concealed at the top of the back window – just like in a Variety Rover!

There's a good amount of tech on the inside. All functions are handled through the large infotainment screen, but the system is pretty responsive and user-friendly to utilize. There's a digital dial screen, a heads up display as standard, and a great amount of storage throughout the cabin. The seats aren't the most comfy, however all-in-all it's a good place to be.

There are 2 engines available: a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder turbo fuel that delivers 147hp and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder plug-in hybrid that puts down 204hp. The previous includes AWD or FWD, while the PHEV is front-wheel drive only.

So does the Jaecoo 7 offer enough to sway you far from established rival brand names? Or does Mat think you should stick with what you know? You'll need to keep enjoying to see on your own!

      Honestly, have people seen how cheap RGB LED strips are? Having ambient light is not expensive.

    2. @rburrows3 Avatar
      @rburrows3

      That’s a good point. But it also raises another, if it’s the cheapest bit, why aren’t European & Japanese car manufacturers including them to stay competitive? They are always optional extras or only available in their top spec vehicles which at this point is very expensive.

    3. @thunderbug8640 Avatar
      @thunderbug8640

      @@rburrows3 That’s just marketing and consumer ignorance. If you convince people something is fancy and expensive, they will pay a lot for it, then you can sell it for a lot even if it doesn’t cost you much which is good for padding those margins. Only reason these Chinese cars have it as standard, for our markets at least, is because no one will pay top money for a Chinese SUV, if they can get a known brand for around the same price. When Chinese cars mature in these markets, one of two things will happen depending on how successful it is, either the Chinese will adopt the same options model as established brands for more profit or they will keep their current model and established brands will adjust theirs to compete.

    4. @laercio3862 Avatar

    5. @GirishKumarBhat Avatar
      @GirishKumarBhat

      @@rburrows3 Most Japanese cars don’t include them even in their top spec ones… Look how minimalist their cars are. Not in terms of design like Tesla but in tech itself. Many have the physical knobs, physical AC vents, very tactile in general… Not much of those ambient lighting at all.

      I think it’s because Japanese manufacturers want things to last longer… those RGB led strips might be cheap to buy… but most stop functioning or become dim very soon. I feel that’s a good thing.

      @izzieb

      @@AT-pg9epYou might want to look up more recent average wages in China, the gap is not anywhere near as large as it used to be.

      It’s also worth considering that most of the big manufacturers long ago outsourced their manufacturing out of their home countries/regions.

      SmarterEveryday actually posted a very relevant video recently. I would encourage you to watch it as it touches on this very topic.

      The unfortunate reality is that a lot of the Western world has lost the skills (i.e. manufacturing dies, moulds or jigs). It’s not about cheap labour.

Btw it only costs 11-13k pounds here. 😅

    Also the parent company of this car, Chery, is the joint venture partner of Jaguar and Land Rover, that’s why some of Chery SUVs look similar to Land Rovers.
