I Test The Ultimate Camper Van!

Modification your automobile with :

This is the brand-new !

Mat's got his hands on the T7 edition of the California, and he's about to see how it's progressed over the previous T6 generation.

One essential change over the previous California is that the new car is based upon a cars and truck platform, compared to a van platform used for the T6! This modification is clear from the outside, with the front end of the California looking relatively similar to the ID Buzz. It features a full-length light bar and contemporary headlights, while along the side, the body panels continue the resemblance to a car's design.

However on the within is where you'll discover the most changes. The cooking area unit has progressed, now permitting somebody to go into the California from either side! There's a single gas burner, a refrigerator, and a variety of power outlets. The back seats can move on, back, or be removed altogether, and the front seats can turn around, too. The roof still broadens to expose a bed, and the rear seats can fold down to develop a 2nd bed too.

In regards to engines, there are two to select from. There's a 2-litre diesel that produces 150hp, or a 2-litre turbo petrol that produces 204hp.

The entry-level T7 California costs around ₤ 63,000, while the range-topping car that we have here expenses around ₤ 82,000. So, is it worth it, or should you simply stick with the more affordable T6 instead? Stick with Mat to see for yourself!

Thanks to for lending us the California!

yeah 80k GBP is crazy! Here in Germany they are way cheaper and probably also why they are so popular, including the previous Models
Apparently they are also insanely reliable, not rare to see them being used up to 300.000km (so around 186k Miles) without a History of Major Problems
So definitely recommend them, though i feel for the British if they have to pay that much for one

@@bear1245 The cost of a Volkswagen California varies between the T6 and T7 models and depends on the specific variant and equipment level.

      VW California T6:

The T6 model has been available for several years, and prices for used vehicles in Germany vary based on age, mileage, and condition. For example, a 2020 Volkswagen T6 California Ocean with approximately 33,000 kilometers is listed at €64,100, while a 2023 T6.1 California Coast with only 20 kilometers is priced at €79,850.

      VW California T7:

The T7 California became available for order in Germany around June 2024. The starting prices for the different variants were as follows:
      • Beach: €62,689.20
      • Beach Tour: €67,824.05

@@tiadaidthat is for light trucks buddy. Don’t waste your time talking about something you don’t fully understand.
      Listen now,

Under U.S. customs regulations, if a vehicle has rear seats with seatbelts, rear windows, and comfort features (like carpeting or air conditioning throughout), it’s typically classified as a passenger vehicle, not a “light truck.”

      This matters because:
      • Passenger vehicles are not subject to the 25% Chicken Tax.
      • Cargo vans/light trucks are subject to it unless they’re assembled or significantly modified in North America.

So if VW wanted to bring the VW California into the U.S., and they ship it with rear seats, belts, windows, etc., it would be classified as a passenger van, dodging the Chicken Tax.

I have owned the T6.1 for 4 years now.

A few things seem nicer for use in the T7 (plugging a laptop offgrid is one), but the loss of a second gas burner, of kitchen, fridge and storage spaces makes it (at least on paper) much less interesting for me. I’d say style over substance from where I’m sitting.
