I almost CRASHED this car!

Modification your car with Carwow:

Last year, Ford decided that stunned automobile fans the world over – it killed off the Focus!

The question is, should the Kuga be next? Mat's got his hands on an all-new Kuga to see whether this family-friendly crossover SUV is most likely to be next on the slicing block.

What's more, with so many crossover SUVs on the roadway today, he's going to see if it has what it takes to outlast rivals like the Nissan Qashqai. So let's take a closer look at the vehicle …

Beginning with the design, the Kuga received a mid-life facelift in 2015. This indicates the front end features an updated grille, and the new Ford badge sits in pride of location within it. The vehicle we have here has the active pack, which suggests there is some silver trim put below the grille. Along the side, the automobile is relatively plain, but this edition has cladding around the wheel arches, at the bottom of the doors, and there is also a set of roofing system bars. When it comes to the rear? Well, it's pretty outdated compared to a few of its competitors, but at least it features genuine exhaust pipes on either side!

Step within, and there's one big update over the previous car – there's now a big infotainment screen embeded in the centre of the dash. It's rather responsive, but the menus can be a bit confusing. What's more, physical buttons for the environment control have now been moved into the infotainment system! Thankfully, though, there is a set of digital dials, and high up on the dash, you'll find soft-touch materials. Simply don't reach too far down if you're not a fan of scratchy plastics!

Diesel motor alternatives have been gotten rid of for the new Kuga. The entry-level is a 1.5-litre turbo fuel with 150hp, while there's also a 2.5-litre petrol plug-in hybrid that produces 243hp. Both of these choices are front-wheel drive only, so if you want four wheel drive, you'll need to select the standard hybrid, which also includes a 2.5-litre NA petrol engine, which can produce 183hp.

As of December 2025, the Kuga begins at ₤ 33,315, rising all the way to ₤ 40,695 for the four-wheel drive edition. The concern is, should you pick it over more affordable rivals like the Nissan Qashqai or Skoda Karoq? You'll need to stick with Mat to see on your own!

    They also killed the smax and that was one of the best family vans EVER. No, I won’t discuss that, I have never seen a car that gives you that much space and has a decent engine and is also reliable. Instead, people want f**king suvs. I’ll never understand that.

      A CRV hybrid starts at about 49k, and a Rav4 is in the 40s. So it’s not a terrible price. I guess people in the UK and Europe also can’t get over car prices going up. We Americans feel the pain, since it’s happened to us.

      @FacuGonz3

      @KNRS927 UK car reviewers always talk bad about Ford, when the Mondeo was still in production they said the car was “old” and bad, and actually is one of the last good sedans of it’s segment.

    5. @KNRS927 Avatar
      @KNRS927

      @FacuGonz3 The Mondeo was known as the Fusion when it was on sale in the US, and it was a nice car. The hybrid got awesome gas mileage, drove beautifully, and was decently reliable. The base motor was not too great on performance and fuel economy, but still drove nicely. It also was selling decently up until Ford decided to cancel it. Ford just likes to cancel things even when sales do well. They get caught up in big ideas and forgot some of these cars they cancel make them good money.

    I work at a Ford dealership.
    The only people buying these new kugas mainly are those on motability. Yes, they’re very nice but they’re far too expensive for what they are.
    Most kugas sold in our dealership are second hand ones.

    1. @HTCkiwi Avatar
      @HTCkiwi

      In the Netherlands, these MK3 Kuga’s (PHEV) are imported in truckloads each day. We get them from Denmark, Germany, Spain.. All 1 to 5 years old and less than 60k miles on it. We barely buy brand new cars, unless it’s lease. This car is a compromise for people who want electric, but have range-anxiety. I like mine, but my previous cars (Fiesta and Focus) were better overal cars.

      @AniketRamgi Mine was fine for the first year then the 12V battery went completely flat! Kept doing it until I got a replacement in. There was no way to use the power in the hybrid battery as the relays that control it need the 12 battery to work! All so had a fun time trying to open the bonnet with the plastic release that needed the passenger door to open to release the control!

    I bought an ST Line X PHEV without the panoramic roof, Matrix + coast to coast LED band and trailer mount. It cost 34000€ + some change. The only thing I might miss later is the trailer mount for an external bike rack. Even though the PHEV is FWD only, it has plenty of power, very stable on speed and tight corners and good enough brakes.

    The e-CVT (i know, i know.. ) is amazing. Always in the good gear, full power when needed. And damn, the mileage. 6l/100km in town with an empty battery, ~5l/100km @100km/h, ~7.5-8l/100km @130km/h. For a heavy SUV, this is gold.

    The turning circle is quite big imo, but you know, FWD..

    The battery could last longer, ~50km with AC on, ~40 with heated seats + steering wheel + windshield or ~70 with everything off (when the weather allows it).

    It also has parking assist. I don’t think the 2025 model still has it. I tested once, it did the job pretty well but yeah, it’s a gimmick.

    The boot is good enough, but keep in mind, even when I fold down the rear seats, I can’t fit a bike vertically. 2-3 bikes fit one over the other, horizontally, without any wheels attached. That’s a bummer.. Also, the wheel arches in the boot are made with exposed cheap plastic, not carpet and it is very easily scratched.. The passengers can choose between comfort and more luggage, so that’s also something rather unusual.

    All in all I like it and I am happy with the purchase. For the money I paid for it then, I don’t think there was something with a better value.

    40.000 pounds for that thing.. come on..
