I can already hear the people screaming “oh but the engine will last longer than your whole bloodline”, look reliability isn’t a bad thing, but I’m not going to live in a car that’s hanging by the skin of its teeth just so that I don’t have to repair the engine a lot, at that point, you can just buy a new fresh car with good build quality every few years instead of buying something at this price that will give you a worse day-to-day experience.
-
How can you buy a new fresh car every couple years without losing 10s of thousands of pounds instead of buying a good reliable car having equity and upgrading over time if your budget is £500 a month yes you can go down the pcp route and trade out every couple years but you’re 20k down every 3 years and have absolutely nothing to show for it you can’t really upgrade cars over time because if £500 is the budget it stays at that rather than buy a car on hp sell it use that for deposit and climb the ladder of cars for this you need good engines that hang on
-
And it won’t even last that long these days.
-
That attitude got us here in the first place – shitty disposable cars that are not meant to last longer than warranty.
-
Lol what is this logic. If you are not upper/upper middle class, which you aren’t if this is your primary, then why would you purposefully enter into a scenario which makes you spend another 50 grand in 8 years, let alone any maintenance costs. Ofc you if you have fuckall money then nobody cares one.
-
The engine repairs might be more frequent as well.. do we really think that they only cheaped out on the interior?
-
-
Literally every brand of everything has.
-
Rav 4 is particularly bad inside. It literally feels cheaper than my 2019 Corolla. And even Toyota admitted that Rav 4’s interior is bad!
-
I can already smell them Toyota glazers lining up..
Look they’re still way better compared to their rivals but damn nobody was expecting that from a brand that is known for supreme build quality and reliability! -
This isn’t new but the fact that it’s 45k and selling is an industry problem, meaning everything else is even worse. It’s still the least risky average car and acceptable for people who usually have old beaters. You can get better value of price for other features and materials for sure but it’s a blind trust thing for all the things Toyota might do better underneath.

Nice car
-
Reliability is thing of the past.
Now this… -
All new cars going this way ,😢
-
Toyotas have always been made of cheap squeaky materials but solid engines and gearbox. It’s the German cars that are built of solid premium materials but chocolate engines and gearboxes
-
Yeah thats fair comment….german crap😂😂😂
-
Complete lie,
Only German Cars can Do
Mobil Challenge 250k mikes a year
4 years 1 million miles and everything is factory perfect spec
No Asian car can do that and never will
Since 1947 German vehicles can put 2 million miles on them while driving
Zargos Mountains, no one else even comes close -
@jadan8434read above, you are just repeating lies
-
@Duca8 I am glad you have this experience and knowledge it’s good to know. But for me from what I have personally seen of German cars for the last 20 years is mechanicals far lower quality and life span than Japanese cars. But hey that’s just my experience

The big men in the big offices all have each other’s stocks. They don’t need to compete anymore…
-
Eh!?

-
Ngl I know it’s fucked but I’m kinda relieved it’s not only been happening in Brazil

Toyota is a pioneer in reliable vehicles and has earned its reputation over decades. And now it is so successful that it cuts costs on its overpriced cars extensively because it is still winning, unlike other manufacturers. Engine quality is still at the top; the interior is not as decent anymore. The Toyota tax is real.
-
-
Makes one want to consider the competing models from Hyundai or Kia.
-
Imagine how wobbly it’ll be in a few years
-
The bodywork will rust away whilst the engine remains intact. Police in Seville use Rav4s as their daily drivers.
-
Had the opportunity to be in a few different similar cars, Toyota CHR & Bz4x, Seal & Atto from BYD, other Chinese brand I can’t recall, and a classic Auris.
On the inside new Toyotas felt cheapest, uglier design, less durable but also less quiet and refined. Old Toyota same but felt indestructible. The Chinese cars looked, felt better and were more comfortable and refined.
And I love Toyota so this didn’t make me happy 😢 -
Not only that but here in Japan, Toyota have decided to sell their vehicles based upon whether they like the customer or not. They have over-inflated opinions of themselves and seem to think they are selling premium Rolex Daytona watches or the most sought after supercars or something. A complete waste of time and then they expect their customers to wait literally years for delivery.
-
What matters is if it hasn’t got more squeaky or wobbly in 30 years.
-
I have a 2020, and since driving it off the lot it amazed me how much low quality plastic they used on the XLE models; pretty chintzy
-
My company just got me one of these brand new RAV4s and it doesn’t have any rattles or squeaks. But I did have to get some foam pads where all the hard plastics are near my knees because they were literally scratching my knees up.
