Manufacturers loan cars to journalists for free, as the reviews are basically free advertisement. If they paid for the review every YouTube video would be listed as an ad, just like they are for other paid promotions.

Have the car journos / testers established the longterm reliability and safety of these new Chinese kids on the block before handing out car of the year awards?

We had a chery Tiggo 8 for 3 years with no issues at all, we bought the car when Chery was relatively new to this part of the world and we, together with other car buyers were skeptical but we chose that Chery because of its great Value for money. Three years later it held up great and is a good family car for roadtrips to the coast and normal errands at the same time
We recently sold that one to get the flagship Chery Tiggo 9 and it is amazing, great tech and features for the money compared to the range rover we were also looking at, and we couldn’t be more happier couldn’t

you can literally just type the model and just type long term reliability review, many already surpassed 70k and some even 200k in russia mostly, but the most proved brand from china is chery and gwm for petrol, they’re not perfect by any means but i think its adequate for us buyers to trust their cars.

How are you expecting them to test long term reliability within a year?

Man, how can you measure a reliability of any vehicle? And are you sure even on already settled brand is still reliable nowadays? 1,3,5 years from brand new?
I got my Chery and drives it 3 years already 50k kilos, No issues, No rattles, it still drive as good as brand new. Even my Toyota has more issues than my Chery Tiggo. So that’s what I see as reliable, you won’t know until you try.
And any reviewer can’t measure this reliability things, time will tell.

Yeah Jag is maybe talked about a lot, but not in a positive light. Should be called „clown award” instead. That gimmick design will lose hype (and value) faster than cybertrucks
