It's time for an almighty BMW face-off!

We've got racing driver Sam in the F82 BMW M4, and he's taking on Mat in a. BMW 435d xDrive ?!

Well, obviously, this is no normal 435d. The group at Darkside Developments have gone to town on it! So let's take a closer take a look at the statistics.

Starting with the F82, it's powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that provides 431hp and 550Nm. This power is sent to the rear wheels only by means of a 7-speed gearbox, and it suggestions the scales at 1,595 kg.

Then we come to the 435d. The 3-litre twin-turbo inline six diesel has actually had a whole load of work done to it, including a stage 2 turbo, a bigger fuel pump, bigger injectors, and bigger air consumptions. Oh, and it's also fitted with a laughing gas container in the boot! The vehicle now delivers 485hp (520hp when the NOS is active) and an eye-watering 1,200 Nm of torque!

What's more, Sam has another car waiting in the wings if the F82 is no match for the 435d!

      bad tune he dumps more fuel into it rather than match the incoming boost with the right amount of fuel dont know if this tune meant to run on nitros only but u could have gotten that tune less smokey if u want

      I barely make any smoke in my 130d and i smoke the hell out of m4/m3

      My buddys evo9 with 406whp cant keep up with me after 150kmh

      There are other factors like air temperature, outside temperature etc
      No smoke maps are not built for maximizing the performance

      @@sonni4868 Call your local diesel tuners. Ask them if there should be visible coal during full throttle.

      It’s just a bad tune. A proper tune makes no coal visible during all stages of power.

      This 4 series is so damn odd. Darkside developments are a reputable diesel performance parts dealer but this car is so odd. Any e46 or e39 m57 sounds better, there’re multiple e92 335d that are much faster with similar power and less torque, and there’re hundreds of M57s across eastern europe that are mapped to minimum 300bhp with no dpf, no cats, but a good tune makes them combust clean and pull hard with almost no black smoke. That’s a very poorly build 4 series from my experience with these engines.

      @@Dave-ng7eethe car smokes because of limited turbo air flow, leading to more fuel than air, my E420 CDI does the same (although nowhere near as much) since you reach the flow capacity ceiling of the turbos before the fueling limit. Although i do think that this 435 should be a lot faster, especially with nitrous…

      @@Dave-ng7ee it’s a development car, used to see what combinaton of parts make sense as a kit. The turbo on it is their stage 1 hybrid and maxed out, that’s why it smokes.

      Yeah Jamie at officially gassed had an n57 335d with just an inter cooler, gearbox tune and map running similar times as this diesel was without the nos! I had an n57 435d with just a gearbox tune and map running high 389bhp and 780nm running very low end 12’s seems like a waste of money doing what’s been done to this one!

      Well, it probably emits less CO2 than the petrol engine.. The soot does block the sun, so its actually cooling the earth.

    It is absurd who created this fuel map for this diesel. I had an F31 335xd with 430 horsepower, and there was no smoke.

      It’s not got enough boost firbthe fuel, it’s got an uprated fuel pump. Work in progress.

      Not when gunning it initially but my DPF deleted 330d didn’t smoke anywhere near that much when on boost. Smoke from a diesel is just wasted power and a sign of a suboptimal map.
