Rear wheel is the only way to go. My MG4 is awesome to drive. I will never buy a front wheel drive car again🎉

Awesome to drive and Chinese EV aren’t two things you’d usually put together in the same sentence 😂

We need iD Polo with AWD , proper rally rocket 🚀
But still nice to see VW using GTI name

Smart Brabus #1 would leave this for dust at the local traffic lights.

I’d pick that over the Chinese Smart for a B road any day.

Yeah, but Nicola, how do the indicators sound?

The only thing is, you cannot tune it.

Yes you can. Thing is, you probably don’t need to tune it. The tuning thing comes because a combustion car comes out of the factory as a compromise between performance, emissions and fuel economy.
None of that applies to an EV.

Slowly VW is inventing the modern car. They’ll figure it out eventually.

They already have. The ID3 Neo is a really nice thing.

and f … expensive, not to mention … you’ve said nothing about range !

Range is not the point in performance versions.

Do you expect a petrol GTi to give 65mpg?

A rwd EV with over 300bhp, well that’ll be about as tail happy as a MK2 BMW 325i…… and I wouldn’t call 0-60 of 5.9 seconds quick for an EV either….. quick ish, but definitely not fast

No it won’t. It’s too well controlled. We have a pro performance ID3. It’s 100 hp less than this but due to instant torque it’s quite quick. That torque really driven out of bends. The traction control works hard.
Problem is, it eats rear tyres.

So…wait. What does the I stand for in an EV GTI?

    1. @hughmarcus1 Avatar
      @hughmarcus1

It’s just a badge. Porsche even has a ‘turbo’ version of the taycan

I actually quite like front wheel drive, and manual transmissions, and small light weight cars. Remember when a gti had less than 100 horsepower? And it was awesome (still is ! ).

You should drive an ID3. This is the 21st century
