Skoda ensures the batteries for 8 years or approximately 100,000 miles (whichever precedes). The battery capacity is ensured not to fall listed below 70% of its total usable capacity throughout that time.

    The 8 year warranty isn’t there for a laugh…. Manufacturers know that 15 years and 200,000 miles is a minimum. Newer cars are offering 500,000 mile warranties.

    Dont mean to be that person…. my battery cells died at 9k miles 😢 only 8 months old, 😢 it was a renault scenic etec, renault have had the car since November, its put me off

    I am proponent of EVs, but there are a lot of cracks in your logic Nicole!
    Warranty for 8 years? Cars are used for much longer than that. There are a lot of 20 year olds Honda Jazz on the road with 200 or 300 miles and they are going strong!
    Can an EV battery last for 20 years?
    Even the LFP batteries show strong time-based degradation (opposed to cycles)

      Yes they can last that long but will experience degradation.
      Sure there are 20 year old cars on the road. They didn’t come with 20 year warranties though…
      They will have almost certainly had some repairs and likely a couple of significant ones at that

      You mean like worn motor bearings or onboard battery chargers that won’t work or a dead battery module or software glitches or a broken screen so nothing works.
      It is still a car but a new clutch is less expensive than all of this above

      @marin@marinusk67 battery module can be replaced relatively easily depending on the architecture of the battery pack and how accessible the manufacturer makes it.
      Screens and substantial electronics are in both ICE and EV vehicles so I’m not sure the relevance there.
      ICE vehicles could have their engines blow shortly after the warranty is up, that is far more expensive than a replacement motor or onboard charging unit. E.g. The infamous ecoboom engines from Ford.

    EVs today may be like 1920s cars, they will get better and better, but I will wait as long as I can.

    The weight of EV’s is my biggest worry. How heavier the car, the more I pay In road tax. No thanks.

      Road tax depends on emission not the weight of the vehicle you baffoon. You will pay the same or more for an ICE engine and you will also pay much more in fuel

    There are a number of variables to how long batteries last.
    ..
    8 year warrenty is not bad, but 8 years goes quick.
    ..
    Depends on the usage,
    hard heavy foot driving,
    (Making the batteries work their hardest)
    ..
    Charging disapline
    (20/80%)
    ..
    Hot or cold climate
    the vehicle is stored in (country)…
    ..
    And how good,
    the manufacturer customer support/aftercare is..
    .
    The batteries are pretty, good some Tesla’s out there 266,000 miles ~ holding
    ~ 80% of charge..

    The Skoda warranty is to cover the battery not dropping below 81% inside the 100,000 miles. So that 19% decrease in capacity could have a big effect on somebody who relies on the Range,like me. Hasn’t stopped me taking the plunge though
